Thank you for making this available, it is very interesting. None of us can be perfect of course, but I do think he did not really properly engage with the question about negativity on the right. There is surely a difference between genuine conservatism - trying to keep valuable things - and a politics based on fear and/nostalgia. I cannot see anything in the idea of a hard Brexit but a bonfire and a type of revolution, nothing that is in any way genuinely conservative. It is probably also worth remembering that it was not a publication of the left that called senior members of the judiciary as 'enemies of the people'.

Roger Scruton has verbalised for me how I feel about society today. Freedom of speech is not available to all, only those who follow the demands of the vocal minorities. Who is there now to lead us to a really fair society, where all have equity to speak their views without fear.

It's amazing how out of touch with reality some of these young students are ... they think because they are at Oxford they somehow know more than others, and yet they don't have knowledge of history or experience of human psychology ... the young woman from Poland doesn't even know her countries history, it seems like the liberals at Oxford have brainwashed her ... and sadly these privileged young people will hold influential positions in society while having no understanding of the lives of most people or the benefits they were bequeathed by their ancestors

If you accept his contextual structure, then he's right...
but, to my mind, he mis-defines the context....
thus, is wrong....

As a moderate middle-grounder, all throughout, I couldn't help hearing Scruton's encapsulations of Right vs Left as the Oxbridge crowd vs Antifa -- nobility vs anarchy. He really needs to grow beyond his stereotypical dualistic worldview. Perhaps a bit of Buddhist meditation might help. Tedious tosh.
