The problem with this is, for the visitors, the DPRK determines where you can go, what you can see, who can talk to, etc. So you do not get a real picture of the country. It might not be as bad as the west paints it, but it is also not as rosy as the DPRK shows it. There is a lot of poverty, starvation and restrictions on speech, movement, etc. People are not allowed to leave the country. Only a few elites get to go outside mostly for government business. Besides, these people are very well to do and have no reason to leave. A common man cannot just apply for a passport, hop on a plane, and go where he/she want. Same with internet. Only a few have access to internet and most of them work for the national security agency and need to monitor what is going on in the world and also hack other countries. So this is a very naive view of the country.

Communism is hard to maintain for any government. All you gets is place to live and some ration. People can't go for vacation or own a car as they can't afford it. Only military personal have these luxury. Students from DPRK studying abroad are relative of military personal or some govt. officials. Locals don't have this luxury.
