Wow, what a time...I remember when the J5 tactical flashlight was just a Cree flashlight sold on Asian marketplace websites for 99 cents apiece. A few years later it is the same flashlight, a different logo and a $14 price.

A little late to the party but i just ordered the nicron. I currently have a 11 year old maglite mini that is SO weak. I love the quality but man compared to today's LED lights it's just not doing. I've been looking for a while for an affordable somewhat sturdy LED and i never found anything i liked. Especially considering the absolute lies you are being told on amazon concerning lumen lol

The nice thing about the J5 is that the focus adjustment can be easily handled with your pinky when holding it for single handed operation.

When walking the doggo at night I only have the one free hand, and it's with a quick movement of my pinky I can throw enough light at something 200ft away to know if it's a threat then readjust back to short range. This way I don't need some monster light that will blind all the neighbors.

That Nicron is now 28$.

Those Amazon reviews and ratings could be faked and bought.There’s a website that could tell you if it is or not. So when you see a cheap flashlight from China with thousands or four stars and looks too good to be true it probably is. Also all I wanted to know is how long do these flashlight last with a fresh battery and I can’t seem to find anyone testing for this 😅

I blame this video for my descent into flashaholicism and the pile of flashlights I now own as this got me started with a Nicron B74 which I think is a newer version of the N7 and I still find it a good 14500 light with wide beam and good throw also, just doesn't have a low mode?

I've bought Amazon Basics AAA rechargeable batteries and after 6 months the lamps I put them in started to dim quicker. Is it because of their quality? I can see they're no longer made in Japan, they're made in China now.

Are there any rechargeable brands made in Japan anymore?

The switches on those J5 Tacticals suck and will break pretty quickly. Overall, it's an ok light for the price.

I'm back again...should I buy the Coast XP18R ? The Amazon price of $80 is mote than I wanted to spend, but if it's best in its class I'll do it. Any ideas on a comparable size light that's USB rechargeable.

The Nicron N7 I'll buy. I also have an Amazon $50 gift card and want a good quality large USB rechargeable bright flashlight for camping...any advice for a $50-$70 range light? Along the lines of the old days Mag-light size C or D size?

Had a surefire while on duty and it burned a hole through the top carrying case made out of very heavy duty Nylon fiber, had it on my belt and noticed a smell it was still on when I opened the smoking cover with a 1/2 inch hole in it. Beware the switches are prone to be pushed in when you carry them in a belt!

The site is fake, it's all a scam. I ordered 6 pcs and when I wanted to return them they told me they would reduce them by 75%, approx $12 US per pc.
Even among the 6 pcs, on 2 flashlights , the light was very dim. Very bad quality

Nice reviews, well presented, I like the Nicron as I think the versatility of the 90 degree swivel head with the clip would be useful for a belt or Molle on my pack strap., would just like 5o research a bit more the runtime on the low setting.

just because these are the best rated does not mean they are A anygood and B can aucutually do the lumens they claim and C lately after watching people that aucutually test lumens on these lights we do find a done of fraude claims on amazon for lumens ratings people are gulliable and uneducated for the most part when it comes to this stuff ad bleive anything you put in black and white on a website

Best flashlight review I've seen!

In my opinion any flashlight that cannot go down to 15 lumens or less cannot double as a "survival lamp." So I wish they would not pretend. Almost by definition "survival" means "unexpected," which means you'll only have the light you have on you unexpectedly. So expect that you will run out of power completely. Why not have a lamp that is also capable of 120 hours or more? Especially in the winter. In my mind, 120+ hours is far more useful than 120+ lumens when it comes to survival.

When it comes to survival two things are critically important: maximum output and maximum hours.
So in my mind; any lamp that does not have survival-LOW mode but does have blinking "survival" modes is hype, a freaking joke, tinsel for wannabees.
Non-traveling, social, and close-up work require even less light.
Very few reviews show the lumens or hours of lowest-mode.

I would seriously recommend these small but very powerful torches to anyone out late at night. For lighting up dark spaces in doors etc to being shone in a possible attackers face at night they are amazing value. More women should carry them in their handbags at night.

I thought the cheap flashlight you mentioned as the one that's a secret flashlight from the military and may nly be available for a short time looks like the 2 for 10_ light that I ordered off Amazon was the same thing as the guy on the commercial claiming it to be practically a light saber was the same exact thing. Wow.
The guy pitching the little flashlight actually almost convinced it was a Jedi flashlight. No it's just a cheap basic flashlight in case someone reading this wants to know if the light that Matt describes and the cheap light on the military commercial are the same flshlight
