The mid to late 1990's was such a great time in hindsight, multi player Goldeneye and mariokart, soul calibur, FIFA are standouts from that era.

Amazing dudes who backwards engineered all these consoles and systems. Now we take it for granted to read through almost every systems complete fully documented memory maps

Used to run it on my 486 DX4 100 and had to take stacks of floppy disks to my friends house to download the ROMs over dialup :D

When NESticle came out it was the only time I really messed with emulators. It's pretty crazy now and more professional looking

I just got a PC in 1998. I had the consoles and my buddies would always come over on the weekends to game. My buddy downloaded Nesticle. Great times.

I remember some insane person releasing an NES emulator that was an mIRC script. lol

Granted, it BARELY ran Super Mario Bros. But still. It RAN it.

Someone else did a similar thing in either Basic or Qbasic with the same as the above. It RAN games... didn't really PLAY them.

And another neat emulation thing... the GBA was emulated before the system even RELEASED. Granted... at the time there was just the Yoshi demo that "kinda" ran and a LOT of people releasing homebrew games and demos. They were simple and, well, only "ran" at the time. But still... was damned impressive for the time.

With regards to NESticle? That was THE emulator back then for NES considering people like me who were still rocking a 486.

When I first saw this and genecyst in July of 1997 I literally couldn't believe what I was seeing. Such an amazing time. This came out just at the right time to "unlock" all those games I only dreamt of playing as a kid but couldn't due to cost/availability
