Personally, I find the change of the horse from gray to white to be one of the easiest to explain. Both white and gray can be described as "pale," since gray is essentially "pale black." In time, a pale horse seen only at night becomes a white horse, because the moonlight would make a white horse and a palge gray one look the same.
ОтветитьBerchta reminds me a lot of an old witch story i grew up with, where she would give gifts a little over a week after Christmas.
ОтветитьThere is a Grimm fairytale named 'Frau Holle'
Frau Holle (Ms/Mrs. Holle) is the most important charakter and mostly known for making it snow.
There is also a Goddess named Holla wich hunts thought the sky and brings storms
Red!! Please do a video about the count of Montecristo, I love that book (and I hope you finished it by now, it is quite long 😂)
ОтветитьCheck out any books by the Italian historian Carlo Ginzberg!!!
ОтветитьProbably a coincidence but the fact that BOTH Frau Gauden and Herla are both associated with free dogs is kinda amusing
ОтветитьI was singing 'ghost riders in the sky the whole time in my head, very glad you also thought of the reference
ОтветитьThere's also Gwyn ap Nudd (can be translated as Gwyn, son of Nuada - as in Nuada of the Silver Hand). Awesome celtic figure you should look into.
ОтветитьIn Afghanistan and pushtoon Pakistan we call it the wedding of the djinns. And if you step outside you'll get swept in. Its not an Islamic thing, its a culture thing meant to scare accident children
Ответитьthe rider of the pale horse is death odins connection with the dead may be why the head huntsman rides a white horse
ОтветитьA bolt of fear went through him, as they thundered through the sky. For he saw the riders coming hard, and he heard their mournful cry...
EDIT: I posted this comment before I finished the video and heard Red's cover of "Ghost Riders in the Sky".
I just love this channel and its content.
ОтветитьOne of my favorite versions of the Wild Hunt actually comes from Jim Butcher's Dresden Files novels.
He weaves in almost all of the structural components of the legends, plus his own spin on things, and actually puts it together in a way that sounds entirely sensible in the context of the world he built.
One time it's a potentially devastating disaster, and another time it turns out to be the only way to save the world. Because it's neither good nor evil...it's just nature, and it's gonna do what it does, good or evil be damned.
just 12 more years to wait.
ОтветитьAs a German I absolutely love how Red says Gesundheit
ОтветитьSomebody probably beat me to this but there's a Baba Yaga tale that matches up with Red's story about the girl who goes down the well.
ОтветитьThe Frau Holle (Frau is just the german word for woman or in this case Ms./Mrs.) story is nowadays commonly told with the good girl getting covered in cold while the bad girl is covered with tar (the german name of tar is Pech what is also the word for bad luck what also plays in here because with the tar Frau Holle cursed the bad girl with bad luck seen by her fiance who is a nobleman broke the engagement, she and the bad stepmom losing the house and so on) In some areas of germany (like the area I live in) Frau Holle is much more direct with the punishing bad kids since she is also Mütterchen Frost (mother frost) and kills those who are lazy and don't prepare for winter. But the innocent children that are killed by the winter because of their bad parents get taken care of by Frau Holle so it is again a two sides of one medal thing and things criss crossing each other. That is also the reason why often the realm of Frau Holle is told to be full of children that happily and diligent work with/for her.
ОтветитьWas that music from the Witcher 3 during certain parts of the video? Very smooth, Red, very smooth 😎
ОтветитьFor horror, you could also dive into some SCP articles. They can get extremely scary. The Bottomless Staircase is a very good example.
Ответитьokay red, This year for count of monte cristo?
ОтветитьI like E440 “laid” not something you think of when it comes to ghost.
ОтветитьAn episode of "The Ancient Magus Bride" featured the Wild Hunt. This was very interesting.
Ответитьshoutout to E499 Gay Banquet of the Dead
ОтветитьJust wanted to let you know from a life long Norse Pagan it is pronounced (Ayn - here-ree-arr)❤
Ответитьtoss a coin to you Witcher
ОтветитьSo we've got possibly: the headless horseman, mother maiden& crone, hellhounds, banshees, Beifana (prob spelled that wrong), and St Patrick
ОтветитьI feel like you should know that urban fantasy series exists - Indexing, by Seanan McGuire. Not a joke, but definitely using that classification list as investigators. It's great.
ОтветитьAustrian here.
My mother told me that you usually don't put up laundry to dry on the 12 days of Christmas since the Wild Hunt could get stuck there.
It was also costumary in olden times to leave cups of milk at your door for the Perchten to collect and feed her children with.
Fun fact re: Slepnir being gray v. Odin riding a white horse in the wild hunt! So a lot of what would be considered "white" horses are actually gray whose coat has turned white, as gray horses are born one color (black or brown usually) and turn white as they grow older (check out the horse breed the Lippizan for a prime example, but it can happen in any breed), usually between ages 6-10 they turn fully white. How to tell the difference is that true white horses have pink skin and gray horses have black skin, which you can see around their muzzles and eyes, so it very well could be the same horse just with a different descriptor. Just a fun bit of horse knowledge for you!
ОтветитьWow. Dude went to that dwarfs wedding and the dwarf didn't even warn him about the time difference. That's pretty rude
ОтветитьThe Celtic and Gaelic Wild Hunt are led by Herne, also called Cern or Cernunnos. Cernunnos, in Celtic mythology, is a god of The Hunt, Nature, Storms and fertility/virility.
Ответить"For the night is dark and full of... geese?"
Ответитьpoop
ОтветитьI've read a version of the Frau Holly story, it was much the same but with a few added details, there was a cow that asked to be milked, the girl took a little bit of what she took out/harvested to eat and drink, and she had jewels fall out as well as gold and the step sister had snakes as well as the meantioned toads.
ОтветитьI was not familiar with this myth at all. My country has myths of ghosts and riders that haunt the night, but they are always individuals, not groups of ghosts. Really neat stuff!
ОтветитьI love that Red consistently uses "Frieza's horrific power" theme in her videos.
ОтветитьGod dang you could do some cool shit combining this with wendigos
ОтветитьNo no that guy is sans
ОтветитьDoes anyone knows the italic version of the story?
