Revisiting the HTC One (M7) in 2021

Enjoyed making video, would you guys want to see a “revisited” series? If so what should we cover next?

My mother died young and before she died I had the HTCM8. She modeled for a photo shoot for me and she used some very beautiful dresses. Having a full manual control, the M8 was wonderful for getting all kinds of different shots at really any angle. Yes I did not like the four megapixels but, when the photos were printed, they came out amazing. Really the only time the four megapixels was a problem was when cropping in. Outside of that, she was never happier with the photos. Especially since some of them thanks to HTC being able to take full resolution photos before hitting the shutter button by cashing the photos, which mind you even modern phones, don’t do cashing with full resolution, but thanks to that, I even managed to get some sneaky shots of her , as she was making decisions on how to pose and what props to use. And because it were natural photos, since I didn’t have time to really think, they came out amazing. The camera was amazing even nowadays it still holds up as long as you don’t crock and you don’t Need to blow the image up. Let’s face it, most people don’t even print images much less print them large. If they print, it’s usually going to be a 2 x 3 or a 4 x 3. The rest of the time they put them on social media and social media is always around 3 to 4 megapixels. so all you get is a compressed kind of potato version of what the HTC gives you. HTC gives you four clean megapixels and Facebook will give you four potato pixels lol.

Still the best looking phone ever

I missed when smartphone used to looks like these. Curved back and unibody regardless if its plastic or aluminum because not everyone uses wireless charging.

My HTC one m7 was my main phone and personal wifi hotspot until yesterday, from 2014-dec.2023!!!
The battery has swelled up, and I have already found and purchased all the OEM parts to replace the battery, the silver aluminum back and the usb charging port. Hopefully I can resurrect this classic excellent phone!

Loved this phone! I think about it often when I think about when phones were fun. Fun and not just "which has the biggest this? Which the fastest that?" That cold touch in the morning feeling a solid built smooth and beautiful piece of art that happened to also offer the best available. (especially in the UI area) Especially during the era or cartoony and toy feeling Samsungs. It just FELT premium. One can only hope a modern manufacturer takes this approach and knocks it out the park! 🤞

My fold 5 cover screen remonds me of the M7. Maybe thats why I love it so much.

The first android phone that I threw $500 CAD at which was a lot back in the day for a phone 😄

Ugh I miss og htc. These phones are so good !

I used this mobile set it's really beautiful mobile set still i love its feature but it would get heat in very high temperature this was its bad side.

Just wondering if you were able to get a sim card working on the phone?
I'm trying to use it to make and receive calls only.

HTC one M8. Nostalgia

My favourite phone of all-time. I can't see myself ever loving a phone as much as I loved the M7, it was just so good (apart form the battery!)

HTC was just brilliant!I miss the courage and invation of LG.

I remember when i was 14, my dad had bought me this phone. Back then I didn’t really know much about phones but man the m7 was such a beast❤

This phone were important part of my life

I had that phone and absolutely loved it. But when the update came the camera turned purple when it was dark. But than I leant it to a family member and completely forgot about it. Told the person to take care of it but then about three or four months later I found the protective OtterBox case broken outside but no phone to be found. I was truly upset they didn’t take care of that phone.

This is still my favorite phone ever.

I still have this mobile in excellent condition but its motherboard died. Wish it could replaced somehow.

I still have mine do you think I can still use it with a chip adjustment?

It also had the biggest aftermarket ROM scene I had ever seen. I accidentally wiped my phone (not factory wipe) and was able to sideload AndroidOS back on while in South Korea. Might buy another one just for ROM stuff.

most uncomfortable phone of all times. the stereo speakers are loud but nothing special. it can't be used as a portable speaker. good thing is you can spend some time and your brain cells and flush a new kernel that allows to wake the phone by tapping on the screen, install xposed framework and gestures instead of the terrible buttons at the bottom. the volume rocker is also pretty terrible. you can barely find it with your finger. installing root is not a trivial issue on that phone.

The speaker grill sound so clear for 90s. It feel like build in tweeter.

I used to own the m7 and the m8. I miss these phones.

The M7 was my favorite phone that I've ever had. Blink Feed was my favorite aspect

So great to come across this clip - htc One is my forever favorite android phone. Definitely missing the feel of the design.

The design was so groundbreaking the entire industry copied it and still use it today.... HTC Zoe is like sorcery.... literally the Harry Potter photo book in front of you.... apple copied it and called it live photos.... Android UI was HTC Sense copied.... the Google homepage is what HTC came out with first..... the most innovative phone ever

Hand down, the HTC ONE (m7) was my absolute favorite android.

I've had phones since the OG startac. This might have been my favorite phone. It was amazing.

Lcd screen, crappy camera.

Easily my favorite smartphone ever. I'd still be using it if I hadn't broken it.

One of my favorite phones

I have the Google Play Edition of this phone and sometimes wish it had Sense 5, but the raw android (Android 5.1) experience is in no way bad. I recently pulled out this phone again and started using it out of nostalgia and it's great. Sure it's sluggish, has a poor camera and the screen is considered small, but all that's pushed into the shadows by this phones design, comfort and overall user experience. Strangely however the speakers begin to distort when at about 50% volume and with Beats turned on it's a lot quieter but still distorts at around 75% volume. The HDR mode in daylight is horrendous, for some reason it brightens literally everything up and there's no way to rectify that, focusing on the bright part does nothing and the outcome is a blindingly bright photo with only the darkest shadows looking normal.
My current phone is the Galaxy S20+ and I can safely say that the HTC One M7 feels more special and I like the design more.

I loved this phone when I had it years ago....it used to overheat sometimes though.

I use m7 till this day! Slow, outdated, but still great device!

The m7 and m8 changed everything, they helped HTC become one of the first companies to genuinely start competing with apple back in the day. Won't ever forget my sensation xe with beats 😢❤️

It was this phone when I thought HTC would be the main competition for Apple, not Samsung. Yet, here we are.

Between iPhones, this is the only Android phone I ever loved.
Built like a tank!
I accidentally dropped /threw it while riding my bike... - very much like that ultimate drop / stress test that CNET did... Which is why I bought it in the first place.
(Because I really, REALLY hated the fact that the iPhone 4S had a glass backplate.
That backplate literally broke in the first week, when my cat pushed it off an 80cm high cabinet and it landed on the laminate flooring)...
That M7 landed on its corner on the concrete, and it was fine.

The display was amazing too.
Perfect combination between size and screen resolution.

And the camera was good (for me) - good in low light. AND the first smartphone camera I had seen that produced proper slow motion video!

The 'blink feed' part worked a little like the message center on my Blackberry Bold 9780.
Which is something I miss to this day.. That message center made me so much more productive..

And the speakers were just great.
That Beats algorithm worked very well.
(Plus, I think they really tuned the EQ to the capabilities of the speaker cones. They went LOUD and bass-rich and clear)

This phone was way ahead of its time.

the curved back was both ergonomic, and - looking back with current knowledge - I think it allowed for the bigger camera sensor, having the lens a bit further away.
so there was very little deformation near the edges of the photos and videos.

i totally agree with you, HTC back then was a true amazing piece of art, the boom sound, 3.5, camera was unique (or at least back then), the design and lastely the softoware. sense5 and its weather, clock, everything is where it should be.
