1/ one doesn’t use vertical speed mode to climb……best way to end up in a stall
2/ One NEVER avoid thunderstorms by trying to fly over them, especially in these parts of the world where they mushroom up to 50 000 ft.
You fly around them, minimum distance of 20 NM to be increased depending of one’s altitude and wind. Upwind preferably.
No rocket science. Just common sense.
The almost exact same accident happened in 2009…..Air France 447 stalling over the Atlantic……different causes……same reaction.

The poor F/O, his life was just beginning...

I'm sure there were also many other young people on this ill-fated flight, how tragic.

Can someone explain to me a stall? I know it’s when a plane is unable to gain height and the nose is pointing up a bit but I still don’t get it

I’m sorry that wasn’t pilot error that was AIRLINE error how can a pilot know how to recover from something they haven’t been trained for let alone paid for!! Absolutely disgraceful

It is absolutely vital that air crews know the aircraft's performance envelope, keep up with technical bulletins, and understand the limitations of on-board equipment. Obviously this airline was run as a cash cow for its owners, who likely should have been jailed.

Tragic. Even more tragic because this flight had enough altitude to actually recover from the stall if they had simply nosed down. Many fatal stalls happen without enough altitude to recover.

Something about non-U.S. or non-U.K., overseas trained pilots....idk....they just make the stupidest mistakes.

For the millionth time, a plane goes into a stall and one pilot or another yanks back, back, back, on the stick and keeps doing it. Its like the atavistic hindbrain takes over and throttles the higher functions.

My brother in law was a pilot and also a flight instructor. He said nearly all plane crashes are due to pilot error. Very few are mechanical/computer errors.

All airplane crashes are sad, but the ones like this that have such an easy and basic solution (recovering from a stall) are particularly upsetting. I just hope most everybody was asleep.

Probably a dumb comment from a non-pilot, but the auto-pIlot reacting to near stall speed by pitching the nose up makes no sense to me.

I lived in the Caribbean for a year, and the late summer weather consisted of one brutal storm after another. All the while the temperatures stayed in the 90’s. I would avoid travel in the area during this period.

Seems like a lot of these air crashes are due to circumstances coming up which divert the pilot's attention from maintaining sufficient airspeed.

So avoidable. I wonder how many people would have gotten on that plane knowing all of these problems beforehand? They should have been grounded when they couldn't even pay their pilots & help. So many lives lost for not even one good reason. Makes a person angry.
