The reality is, the England golden generation was super overrated. The players are just not as good as everyone says they were, which is why they never figured out how to play with each other under multiple managers.

They failed because they were not golden.

Simple. They were good but were not that good. On Individual level, many of those players had major flaws in their respective game. As good as they were, some were slow, whilst others can't pass to keep possession, and some just can't play d cos the way they used to playing at their respective club. British media was to blame too

Maybe learning how to keep possession and dribble a football would have helped. England had no geniuses like Zidane, Totti, Iniesta, Pirlo.

They just weren't good enough, why can't anyone admit that? They were completely outplayed by Brazil in 2002 even after they went a man down. Lost twice to Portugal in 2004 and 2006 on penalties. Didn't even qualify for Euro 2008 and were humiliated by Germany in 2010.

England simply were not good enough. Neither then nor now. Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Netherlands, Portugal, Brazil and Argentina were always much better. None of these players would make the best players team of their generation.
