I just got a grade 1 by making a rookie mistake by not stretching and going to weighted alternating jump lunges right away to increase my vertical to increase my ability to dunk, does anyone know if this could restrain my jumping ability for a while?

Have you explored the literature on icing delaying the healing of soft tissue injuries? Inflammation is the catalyst to the healing process and any icing and NSAIDs delay the healing process.

Hamstring recently doing sprints it hurts so bad it put me on the ground. But it’s now been a month there was no bruising afterwards put the air I felt pull doesn’t really flex hard or at all to be honest should I be worried? Do I need surgery? I can walk and do normal things upstairs now though.

Ice No more than 10 minutes or you do more damage than good, so as much as you want… not great advice

Thank you so much for this video. Do you think this will work for upper-hamstring strain too? I have a grade 1 srrain from overstretching at Taekwondo around 7 weeks ago (I was doing the pancake/straddle stretch but went a little too low and felt a pop in my inner thigh). It didn't hurt at all, and I was able to finish the class without pain. The next day, I felt sore on my right lower glute area (right on the bone where the hamstrings attach), and I couldn't kick high on that leg without discomfort. Now, 7 weeks later, my range-of-motion is still not back to normal on my right leg. It doesn't hurt, it's more "stuck" or I feel like a tugging sensation when I try to stretch it. Ironically, it doesn't hurt when I do my middle splits. Could I be dealing with scar tissue at this point, or am I still healing?

I'm nearly 61 - recently tried interval training to increase speed and pinged a hamstring - tried to start back too soon and pinged it again (twice more). This video teaches me the error of my ways - I am sure mine is grade 1 but at my age I have to resist the temptation to start back running (or fast walking) too soon. Definitely icing but perhaps not enough with being at work. Hopefully a few weeks and almost as good as new!

The advice in this video was very expert and well presented, but the camera work was a serious issue. The camera panned back and forth, in and out, for no apparent reason. I actually found it creates a feeling of motion illness. Next time, just don't move the camera for movement's sake. But thanks for the guidance - it did help

Does jogging help the recovery process? Or does it make it worse? if jogging isn’t painful

ive seen people with grades 1 and 2 jogging few miles just fine
but those with grade 3? these people were in AGONY
they were essentially unable to move and were screaming whenever they tried
sadly it's too common of injury for those that workout or are athletes

I tripped on a raised sidewalk today, caught myself but I think I tore my left leg hamstring by overextending while trying to not faceplant. I’ve already been dealing with strain for a few months due to squats, etc. but I’d stretch out good and was okay. I can’t put much weight on my leg.. definitely can’t bend without severe pain. It’s in the middle but it’s throbbing up to my butt. It’s keeping me awake right now, even with toradol and muscle relaxers, so here I am, lol. Ortho on Monday! 🤕I appreciate your info and hope to buy a roller as soon as I’m able to.

that is not what you should do, rice = dubenked, you shouldn't massage an injury so much why!?!? , then the first movement exercise is actually a good one but then you should also progress to lifting your but of the ground, then going 1 leg to as many reps as possible or until no more pain spriting at 100%, defo should start running when possible just a little bit at a time, step ups are pretty basic you should also aim to getting back to a deep squat with a narrow stance, last thing that is key is rest between every workout, meditation and wim hofs breathing technique helps with that a lot.

Very helpful. Lucky me (not). The pain starts in the left butt cheek (insertion point), hurts in the crease between butt and leg and shoots down to mid-hamstring. I'm two/three weeks in (I've been in denial from the minute I heard the pop trying to ease into a split during yoga). Even after, I continued yoga which only made it angrier. I'm finally seeing a doctor in two weeks. Likely need PT). In the meantime, any type of forward bends are painful (so I stopped yoga). It hurts when I sit, no matter what position the leg is in. I want to keep moving but I'm a woman who only knows how to go all in or do nothing. I guess biking up and down hills, not a great idea (I think I know the answer but want to hear you say it)?....I wish we had more pools available in NYC. That would probably be soothing....Looking forward to trying your suggestions. Until I get the ball and foam....any no equipment exercise suggestions? I've been doing small leg swings to keep the leg moving .....My second question is where does the ice pack go: on the insertion point, crease, under top of leg? I'm gonna assume (or hope) you're better. Many thanks.

That’s inaccurate you can’t avise people to rest. Keep moving and ice it but no hard exercises.

YOU COULD BE COMPLETELY WARMED UP AND STILL PULL THE HAM, I DID 19 SETS OF HAMSTRING SETS WITH VARIOUS MACHINES AND ON MY LAST SET 20TH SET, I PULLED IT DOING STIFF LEGGED DEADLIFT, 50 LBS ON EACH SIDE AND STILL PULLED IT, GLAD IT'S MILD AND I CAN WALK FINE

I am not sure if I am grade 1 or 2, i am pretty sensitive to pain generally, but this does hurt a bit. I am not screaming in pain but i can feel it strong. Its my 5th day. The quads and hamstrings both feel sore. Walking around gently feels better, but only for a while. The chair pressure under the thighs seems to aggravate it when i sit. I cannot sit criss cross still. Can i massage it or am i still inflamed and should I wait?
