When the Cat at the adoption center chooses you

my cat originally came straight at me, danced around my legs, entered the transport box that i had put on the floor, sat down and waited to be taken home. i didn't even have time to choose. 14 years best buddies right from the start.

You come across stories of a son, or a daughter, bringing home a stray kitty (or doggy) and pleads ‘can we keep it’, and you have to make that fateful decision. However, when your family kitty, brings home a stray kitty, the family kitty declares, ‘we are keeping it, whether you like it or not’. Life’s decisions are so much easier, when your pet is in charge.

In September of last year (2023) I was at work when I got a text from my mother that a stray cat was hanging in our driveway. I was promptly sent photos of what was easily the most gorgeous Calico I had ever seen. I still had about 4 hours until my shift was over, so I figured the cat would be gone by then, as I had never even seen it in the neighborhood before. I had received a few more texts about the cat for a little while, most notably that it had jumped in the car with my poor Mother who couldn't pet it due to being allergic, but that was the end of it. Or so I thought.

See, I worked at a grocery store. And I had this nagging feeling that I should buy a can of cat food, just in case it was still there. Finally I caved, it was only 79 cents anyway. A friend drove me home that night, just about midnight, and when we got to my driveway I didn't see it. Slightly devastated but not surprised, I wave my friend off and move to go inside. Halfway up the porch I hear a quiet meow from behind me, and lo' and behold - there she is, creeping out from under my mothers car.

Long story short; I couldn't keep her forever, and I have sobbed many times over it. She was the sweetest cat I've ever had the pleasure to know, but I was not in a financial situation to afford a cat, and I have a dog already - one who is not not fond of cats and she had to come first. But, I kept that cat - now named Pumpkin by yours truly - for as many months as I could. I refused to give her to a shelter, instead rehoming her myself to one of my wonderful team leads at work. He is such a sweet man and was absolutely enamored with her from the first image. I took her over one night - still sobbing, but knowing it was the right thing to do - and I swear. I've never seen such a perfect match from moment one.

So yes, I will miss Pumpkin probably forever, but this story still has a happy ending. For all of us. Because I still have my Dog who I love more than life itself, and an wonderful man has a new companion of his own.

He even kept her name, Pumpkin.

I went to a cat cafe and saw a little kitty sleeping so I went to see it and I pet him to let him know I was there and he started purring. He ended up climbing on my lamp and purring some more. He is now my lovely cat milo❤

On 9/4/2024 I had to work 3rd shift. About 2pm, a man drove up to my store with a skinny frightened cat on his dashboard. He explained she ran under his car and he nearly killed her. The man had caught her and was going to find her human family or adopt her himself. Praise God for his kind heart.

On the day they met, my sister's cat willingly entered a car for her. He was terrified of cars, but he wanted to be with her THAT badly. He was shaking like a leaf the entire drive to his new home, but he endured it.

I think that ingrained into him a realization that he could trust her with his life. That even if something was unpleasant or scary, it was probably being done for his benefit.

He would sit through flea treatments, and on one memorable occasion sat perfectly still while we disinfected and stitched up a massive wound on his neck. Left the stitches alone without needing a cone, and healed up perfectly without a single scar.

I wasnt there when he was found, but my parents and siblings found our Kittie pixie with his litter under my grandpa's porch, Pixie was the first one to walk out- he and his siblings stilll needed bottle fed. He still lives with us now and he brings us so much joy. He's a big sweetheart and loves cuddling. My dad who doesnt rlly like cats claims pixie is his favorite cat he's ever had or been around. He's 13 pounds- big boy, but he still thinks he's a kitten and loves being held or cuddled. He's almost annoying about it

Funfact, cats domesticated themselves, so in my head that means when a cat chooses you they literally are adopting YOU

i wish the universe cat distribution center would send me another one. haha. we just adopted one and i love him, but he prefers my husband (who didn't even want a cat, mind u!) and now I want one that chooses ME! lol

I always let cats choose me for adoption. There's just no other way.

Heh, when i was a kid my parents got me and my sister a cat each. They decided that if they were going to get their daughters kittens, they might as well go all out to make sure it was perfect, so they did some research and decided to get us ragdolls.

We each told the breeder what kind of cat we wanted and she picked one out for each of us. The problem was, the one intended for my sister got seriously ill right before we were going to pick them up and bring them home. The breeder decided to simply give my sister a random other kitten who shared the same markings. >:(

She was a sweetie, but didnt connect with my sister. She became my parents cat. For 7 years my little sister had to watch me and my princess being incredibly close while having no kitty to love herself.

Then one day my family was going to stay with friends about 8 hours drive away for the long weekend. I was a teenager and volunteered to stay home and look after the cats with my 2 best friends sleeping over. We went to the mall the evening before they were going to leave, to get last minute supplies, and we walked past the pet shop there.

Sister and i begged to just stop in there and pat the kittens for a bit, and my parents agreed. One of the kittens climbed straight into my sisters arms and would not let go. She clung to my sister, and when removed tried to swim through the air to get back to sis. While my sister was cuddling her i told my parents that it was unfair and heartbreaking for her to be without when i had such a loving cat and she had to see how close we were every day. We brought the kitten home.

The next morning my family left for the friends place... which is where the problem started. 😂 This kitten had been SO determined to have my sister be her mummy that when her new mummy left the next day, and she was left with just me? She thought her aunty magicked her mummy away!

She was an absolute terror for 3 days and i thought "oh my god weve made a terrible mistake. This kitten is a nightmare!". She was fully litter trained but decided to protest her mummies absence by pooping everywhere else, she was bitey, and when i picked her up and held her above my chest to look at her adorable little face... the little villain looked me dead in the eyes and PEED ON ME! I just said "take. The. Kitten." passed her off to my friend, and went for a shower.

I had been making excuses for the kitten the whole time, but when my family got back... she went straight back to being a loving, well behaved sweetie with my sister. I was outraged! I cant blame her though, she chose my sister and didnt want anyone else

My works to help people died painlessly and in a place that looks like a home. At one of her locations a black kitten just bluntly walked in, there was nothing before, it just walked in and said, " I live here now. " His name is Kevin and he is actually the sweetest cat in the world. As in he just loves people, he wants love from everyone and everything, he will sleep anywhere, that includes flower pots.

i wish cats would love me. but i seem to give off an odd vibe to them that makes them defensive. i went to classes for to get used to cats so i could learn more about cat behaviour but even those cats ended up getting agressive with me. doctors think i might be producing a hrmone or pheramone of sorts that makes cats nervous but we have no idea

My cat has such a sad story. She was dumped at a young age, survived in the wild for a whole year, had kittens, one died, then was finally taken to a shelter with her surviving kittens. Needless to say, the kittens got adopted really quickly but she just stayed there. It seemed like no one wanted her. She was super shy and never came out to play with the other cats. Then I saw her listing and just felt that she was the one. I got to the shelter, they took me into the cat play room where she was hiding inside a cat condo. The staff were even like "you can pick a different one if you want you know". I said no, I wanted to see Kya, the cat I had seen in the listing. They eventually got her out and brought her into a room with me. After 10 minutes of her sitting scared in the corner and me whispering softly to her, she slowly came over and let me pick her up and put her in my lap and she just stared straight into my eyes like she finally realized she was gonna have a good home now. Within just 2 months, she became nearly inseparable from me and the bond has only grown stronger as the years have passed.

Meow Meow

Years ago a senior calico princess started coming to our doorstep. We started feeding her and she eventually started trusting us and she became my best friend. We named her Suzy. She's not with us anymore but my family and I are raising her descenants now. Before she passed away, she had given birth and one of her kittens also gave birth almost two years ago. Now, one of Suzy's grandchilren, another beautiful calico princess just like Suzy, is under our care. She's almost two years old and she also gave birth a few months ago. She gave birth to two gorgeous female kittens and we kept them both. We've spayed her now. Now my babies (my cat, the two kittens, my dog, a new puppy and our chickens) are in my hometown and I miss them so much because I moved out and went to the city for my studies after I was done with high school. I'll see them next month when I visit my family for Christmas and I can't wait to hold them again. And I wish I could bring Suzy back. To see her pretty eyes and hear her sweet meows and purrs again. I miss her. Animals are truly the best and we need to keep them safe at all costs. I've raised over 30 animals in my life and I wouln't trade that life for anything

I've had my cat bling way before I came along and he was like a year older than me and he had to be at least 22 years but sadly he passed away this year due him not get enough nutrition after he had an injury
