Such a shame that this movie wasn't recognized critically. I guess the content was so dark that they just want to pretend this movie never happened

Ya one if he best and heartbreaking movies ever. But after all these years kinda hit me that they could have scared all the witnesses and had the case thrown out. With the mob and street thugs they all knew. But guess kinda wanted the case to go on too get the other guards? But ya one of the greats. Loved Renfroe and love R Eldard.

I remember watching this when it came out. I was a teenager and thought it was incredible. It still holds up after all these years. Kevin Bacon is beyond brilliant and boy do you hate him when you watch it

Allowing children to play such roles is abuse itself. Can you imagine a child actor playing a scene wherein they're being sodomized? I watched this movie once and I know I will never watch it again. People who claim to have watched this movie many times and that this is one of their favourite ones must have some serious issues (pedophile alert!). These kids most likely need therapy now as adults.

Kevin Bacon's character reminds me of the bad guard in The Green Mile; there is a reason that certain people [men] take certain jobs, so they can have some kind of authority [ power ], over people, and this is why there should be mandatory psychological testing for anyone wanting to enter the police, jailers, any place where you could potentially have a say over what happens to people in custody. The US has the shortest training for police, and this is harmful, since many men have abused this power, even being a serial killer while on the job as an officer!
First of all, those boys should not have been put in that prison, it was the wrong place for them, they should have gone to a rehab place where they could do real work, get their education, and be better people when they got out; but this place ruined them! Those men who did this to them were sexual deviants! This is where the citizens need to step in, and have a say in what happens to men like them! It seems the US is lacking in many areas, they care more for their military than their citizens, 'to serve and protect' means that the police only serve and protect themselves! I know that there are great police out there, but for every one of those, there are 5 or 6 bad ones, and YOU know who you are!

Such a cast had only renfro not committed suicide.
