There are people that will need this. Not everyone got raised up doing it. I certainly don’t fault them for learning.
Good job 👍

I use Mobile 1 oil and a Mobile 1, Fram or Wix filter. Pretty confident that all oil and filters these days are good for 5K miles. One thing I do differently and it's not necessary is that I prime the oil filter before I put it on the engine. You can fill it to the top then let it sit a few minutes then top it off again. I do this three times on most filters. This gives me a full filter of oil on startup. Also I just buy 8 quarts of oil and put it all in the engine except for what went into the filter. I always get a 5 quart jug and three 1 quart bottles.

Can't believe someone like you uses Fram filters. They are garbage. Plenty of videos on this site proving that. Get yourself a WIX filter. You go the extra mile and get top self oil and than throw a cheap grade filter in the mix. Makes so sense.

Good job, the only thing I do different on my one is, because the filter goes straight up I pre-fill it so the oil pressure is almost instant. If you start up with the filter empty the pump has to first fill the filter before building pressure to lubricate the rest of the engine.

If possible take a hammer and nail or something else and poke a hole in the bottom of the filter to drain the oil. Saves a mess on you and the vehicle when doing the filter.

Have you considered filling the New Filter with Oil before installing it? I do this and save getting any Engine knock when Oil Pump starts, works well. Yes, you have to be carful handling the New Filter filled with oil, but very doable. I wish Chevrolet/GM would come up with a easier view dipstick, the original is a challenge seeing the level with older eyes. Lastly, changing oil with slightly lifted Truck is great, no having to jack the darn thing up. I send my Truck to dealer to Rotate Tires and reset the TPM system, $24.99 Saves my back!

One of the best tasks for a diy vehicle owner. An opportunity to look over items on the underside- torn cv boots, leaks, rotor gouges you name it.

Editing made this perfect.

Next time you remove your oil filter use a clear slurpee cup and twist it off togetther to catch the oil, instead of it getting everywhere.👍

Don, consider upgrading your drain plugs to Fumoto oil drain valves. They make oil changes cleaner and easier.

Great tutorial ! It’s people like you with these new trucks that help other learn…
Had it not been for videos like this one I would have been guessing where my drain plug was at on my 2021 2.7 Sierra
Wish gmc would have gone with a metal oil pan like the V8 trucks rather than an “industrial plastic” type
Does anyone notice a difference when changing oil brands or is it just me 😅
Because mine is the 2.7 turbo I decided to run royal purple oil rather than Mobil 1 like I do with my Chevy Malibu

Thanks for posting. I grew up helping my dad change oil in our vehicles and then on my own. Have gotten lazy over the last decade or longer and have just taken it to the dealer. Now that I have my own AT4 and can actually get under it, I want to get back into the DIY oil change. Thanks for the inspiration!

Not sure where my last comment went but I just wanted to point out Pennzoil ultra platinum is not a Dexos approved product. It is Pennzoil recommended but their platinum synthetic is. I wouldn't want someone getting a warranty claim denied for wrong spec of oil. Great video though. I have an Audi Q7 with the 3.0T and find Liqui Moly runs great though the supercharged engine.

Great vid, keep doing it! 👍
In my case, I always been doing all my vehicles oil changes myself. Until the prices of oil went up.
Our Dealers charging $69.95 +tax. After purchasing filter and 8 Qts it’s only saving $10-15 approx. It’s not worth spending time underneath anymore. I’m just speaking about myself and deals around us. For some areas no doubt...better do it yourself.
But It’s always better do it yourself! You never know what they do and pour in your truck at dealer! 😊
Just expressing my experience.
Thanks for your hard work! 👍✌️

I use the same oil but run the Purolator Boss filter on my 19' Sierra Denali 6.2l. I did a lot of research on the filter for our engines and it boiled down to the Mobil 1 or the Purolator Boss.

What possessed you to use a Fram oil filter? They are the worst. The can of death...the original Delco oil has been in my experience much better.

I always go back and forth with just adding the 8 quarts or adding 7.5 and start to nickel and dime until 8. That said I know too much oil is not good but adding and it being a hair over I have read is okay since there is room for error in the oil pain and you would have to be a quart over. I saw a good video on this from a mechanic. What's your thoughts? Nice video, even watching another person oil change is fun.

I have looked at the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum as of June 2024, and currently no where on the jug front and back does it say Formulated to meet or exceed gm standards or dexos approved. Just the Platinum it say's GM Dexos approved meet or exceed, but not the Ultra. Any opinion's on this. I am just worried about the Warranty. I am getting ready to change my oil in my 2023 Chevy Silverado RST 5.3.
Thanks Love the Videos
