I guess Mexico, Spain, Central and south america, Brazil, Italy, France, and Portugal, all countries enjoying Sailor Moon and original Dragon Ball since at least 1994 are in another dimension then. All with their own respective dubbings (except for Central and south america who used the mexican dubbing). I know you don't count anything below the USA border as "the west" (for whatever reason), but lefting out Europe man!? Come on!

Isn't using microaggression to push any political agenda illegal? Wasn't it the reason why the artists behind Solo Leveling's opening were forced to disband their studio? It may have been the "small dick" hand symbol for that incident but imagine if it was a swastika. Audiences would of lost their shit. If the animation industry has a zero tolerance policy for microaggression, then so should the localization industry. What the fuck makes these Funimation voice actors think they can use verbal microaggression when its not tolerated in the industry that makes the product they localize to begin with?

The story: Sony Pictures Television bought a 95% stake in Funimation for 143 million USD. This was then approved in August 22nd 2017. On August 7th 2018, AT&T fully acquired Otter Media (Crunchyroll owner) this would then end Funimation and Crunchyroll’s partnership being announced on October 18th 2018; then on November 9th 2018 the contents with the merge were removed; thus creating a new let’s say… dubbing vs subbing war. About 2 and a half years pass by, 2021 comes around and on the 9th August 2021, Sony Pictures Entertainment completed the acquisition of Crunchyroll from AT&T for 1.175 billion USD through the Funimation Global Group, LLC. AT&T (who owned Crunchyroll from August 7th 2018 - August 9th 2021) so 3 years later when Sony took over, they now owned both Funimation and Crunchyroll, Sony then layed off basically all the EX Crunchyroll employees, workers and then took Funimation’s studio (their own) to start working on Crunchyroll instead. They then merged content from Funimation to Crunchyroll which started from March 1st 2022. Crunchyroll then transitioned with Funimation into Crunchyroll LLC. (Previously Funimation Company) Digital Copy’s didn’t however transfer… now let’s say literally now nearly 2 years later. It’s not Crunchyroll that shutdown Funimation, Funimation Merged into Crunchyroll to shut down Funimation’s app and website. Crunchyroll is Funimation’s staff, dubbing team etc just under a mask from when Sony decided to move everything more than likely due to Crunchyroll’s better reputation. Funimation wasn’t as liked so it seemed profitable, Crunchyroll’s site also seems better ran and is far more available in other countries and more people use it. This making Crunchyroll the decision and to just get Funimation’s stuff to Crunchyroll as it was easier. Funimation: May 9, 1994 - April 2nd, 2024. Nearly 30 years. RIP Funimation 🫡

You can’t lie… Crayon Shin Chan was funny back in 2005. Even though a lot of the pop culture references flew over my head with me only being 10 at the time… and still flies over my head with the references now being dated.

Was the original anime unaltered funny? Were the characters funny? I mean, Shin Chan kept the same voice in the sub and dub. I need to watch it subbed.

To be fair. It is not hypocritical of Funimation to be stern on ownership and then use other people's work using their property. You can not steal what you own.

My heart still hurts for Vic. Of course I don't know him personally and can't speak for who he is on the inside, but when I met him several years ago at a con, I thought he was lovely. He gave me an autograph and offered a hug which, at the time, felt very appropriate. His hug was one of those big and friendly embraces you'd get from that sweet old lady down the street that leaves you thinking "wow, I didn't know how much I needed a hug today". It was a friendly hug, but it didn't feel encroaching. Even though he had a very long line of fans to get through, I felt he really put a conscious effort to show sincere thought and appreciation towards each person. He just struck me as a very sweet and friendly dude and I left the con with more respect for him than I had going in. I do think eventually toning down the physical gestures was a good move since not everyone will be comfortable with a big hug or kiss on the hand/cheek, but based on what I saw at the con, I don't believe they were ever malicious.

I truly think this was a case of an affectionate, though inoffensive Italian guy becoming a punching bag for people who want something to scream about.

There's also the problem of the criminal allegation now some of these were just assholes looking for attention (nahh on twitter who would have guessed?!) Three years later, Vic Mignogna is free from the constraints of the corpo world and is working independently with his own dubbing studio, giving aspirig talent a chance and zig zaging the country meeting amazing ppl.

All the while, everyone at Funimation has become desk junkies and are being sucked dry by their management and feeling empty and drained at their convention appearances.

The Vic scandal is the reason I watch subs almost exclusively. As far as anime companies in the west go, I am more of a Sentai Filmworks guy with a bit of Discotek Media and ViZ mixed in.

I can see a time where people will do this and fix the Anime Dub with it, and it was done with Koybayashi with that scene, but I think it will get to a point where you can feed it entire episodes and it translates to an English dub with the ability to make the original voice from Japanese.
I even saw a reddit post that someone did of a scene between the two main characters of Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu and it was pretty impressive, and it's only going to get better.

Today is the 4 year anniversary of when "How Funimation Became the Most Hated Dub Studio" was uploaded! Funimation has since been rebranded to Crunchyroll, LLC and its streaming service of the same name was shut down earlier this year. 🤓➡️😅

I failed to mention that Vic is confirmed to have had a promiscuous quality even when engaged, so there's plenty of criticism to levy at him for that reason.

Part of the Interspecies Reviewer section was misinformed as apparently the anime added more risque scenes than the manga, though I still feel their continued grip on the license and so on is bad, there was a slightly more adequate reason for them dropping it
