IMO, the Mangekyo Sharingan is basically Random BS Powers (tm), so it having a Random BS activation isn't particularly noteworthy.

Sarada has the sun eyes and Ada has the moon eye. Both are potential love interests to the main character. And boruto has been called the sun multiple times in the series by mitsuke. So sarada literally have her eyes on boruto/the sun. And hey sun eyes out of love and a need to protect boruto.

Personally I think the circumstances allowing her to awaken her mangekyou makes perfect sense. However the way it was portrayed, was immensely disappointing. If feels bland and lacking emotion, like ticking a box. Whereas with Saskue and Obito awakening’s it felt alot more immersive and real. Like you could feel Saskue’s sadness, frustration and anger. Whereas with Obito you could feel his Rage and Despair to the world. So yea It makes sense for sarada to awaken her mangekyou , it just was terribly portrayed.

Before: has to see someone very close, die.
