“You believe in gravity and it’s invisible” simply stunning response and the other guy still would find some absurd way to justify the non-existence of a spirit world to feed is pride and arrogance. The way he talks about prayer is just deplorable and cheapens the beautiful act of prayer. Science is now catching up to the bible and the existence of our one true god and creator is proven more and more and it’s scaring all you atheists but pride and ignorance is making you cling to the little shred of belief and credibility in your absurd view you have left. GOD and science can co-exist in harmony and work together for the greater good of all gods creation but some scientists believe there minds are greater and try to do it themeselves

Shermer is being deeply dishonest. We know probably theory and probability theory is conclusive - NO possibility this could happen by chance.

That we don't know is a statement of fact. That it was God is a statement of speculation.

Of course God created the Universe just for us, if you're going to have an ego trip then God wants you to have a real doozy to better your ego-boosting worship of him.

Good response by Prof. John Lennox. Problem with the "I don't know" is it was argued for in a way that conflates scientific inquiry with philosophical inquiry. Asking "how does fine-tuning work and do we have other external scientific explanations?" is fundamentally different from "why does it exist at all?". So, it is not based on what we don't know, but based on what we know. We don't say "I don't know, therefore God", we say "This complex and beauty of the fine-tuning inferred with purpose is evidence of God's handiwork". When Isaac Newton discovered gravity, Isaac Newton didn't remove God as an explanation, but instead said "This most beautiful system of the sun, planets, and comets can only proceed from the dominion and counsel of an intelligent Being". In conclusion, science and faith can be complementary because they address different fields of knowledge and different questions.

Not only do they not know. (Despite decades and decades trying)
Science as it stands right now points decidedly to God.
The incomprehensible degree of that tuning is really the end of atheism

Well, it wouldn't be "God" who actually cured the cancer, that's the angels' department, (acting on God's behalf). But one of the requirements is that the cure would have to be of spiritual benefit to the recipient. If they're just going to take the healing for granted, it's a no-go.
As for the "how", angels appear to have the ability to act on the atomic level... think Crisper, only way more sophisticated.

By saying that the universe is fine-tuned, Mr Lennox is smuggling in a "fine-tuner", an intent, a thinking agent, an (of course imaginary), "creator" who is supposed to "exist" "out of time and out of space" (whatever that means!).
But since we know that all lifeforms will become extinct here on this small speck of dust called earth when our sun comes at the end of its lifespan, I can as well say that the universe is fine-tuned for all life to become extinct! So, if such a fictional "entity" would exist in reality it would be a CELESTIAL MONSTER!
Luckily, gods don't exist in reality but only as CONCEPTS in the minds of very gullible and often deeply so-called "believers" including Mister Lennox!

Michael, you missed the point. We are not talking scientific research, we are talking faith and God's gift. Which is personal. We don't go into scientific research about how much satisfaction a person gets out of life because they volunteer to work for a charity. God exists, only one God and only that God answers prayers. Actually, people need to know the nature of the reality we are living in and its history to understand correctly. You need to believe that God exists and will answer prayer and live His way of life etc. An atheist [or believers] experimenting with prayer to find results would no more expect to get a result from the experiments, than if he did not experiment at all.
Bye the way, speculation about a multiverse is not evidence or sound reasoning of anything. Michael, if you don't believe in a spirit world, fine, but what has that belief position got to do with whether that spirit world exists or not.
Examine the physical evidence about this universe and how it functions and ask if the facts point to the universe always existing or not. An eternal universe does not need a creator [and would disprove the Bible] but a universe that had a beginning would need a first cause what ever that may be.
You say it is all right to say "we don't know"? While this is a good position to be in, does that mean you consider yourself to be agnostic or a atheist that expects to find evidence later?

""you believe in gravity don't you?""
🤣🤣🤣.. John Lennox is a polite Savage 😎

10 bucks says Michael was fixing to say "yeah but, we can measure it"🧐....
If you believe that smart dirt created all life on the planet, it's not a very big leap to ignore the fact you're standing on the earth God created... And measuring stuff...
With a mind that you CAN trust... Because it didn't arrive by way of natural selection "acting" on random mutations...😂

Let me get this straight... Your best argument is...
"Trust what's some scientists say?"🤣

You mean about the subhuman "colored" species being inferior to White's?...😎

Or are you leaning on the "pre-human links" hoaxes perpetrated on the world in the early 1900s?... Is that what you're counting on to lend credibility to your non answer?...

Yep he mixed up his terms a little bit😂...
Yes sir it's "science of the gaps"😎

There are huge gaps in individual humans minds... But there is no Gap where God is concerned...
He told you what He did... And your response?..

."we are going to prove that you didn't"😭...
Have at it pumpkin 💪

There is a reason every major theory ends in..."well, we don't know yet".... Decades and decades 😭😎

The Cosmic Reality
( an overview )
-----------
There are seven hundred thousand created universes.
-----------------
There are three levels to the cosmic reality: Supreme, Ultimate, Absolute.
The Supreme Being having extended his presence throughout the great
universe and everything it contains, has developed an individual
soul (A) and a universal soul (O) which became the soul of all souls,
which we call symbolically;
( the sea )
You should know that the beings generated by the Supreme Creators,
have no soul. These innumerable divine beings were generated,
to welcome you to the afterlife and the planetary princes,
to assist you in your evolution in the flesh.
These beings will assist you in your ascension,
on each level of the universe in which you evolve.
Here's an example: you live on a world that is part,
a local system which is made up of 100 solar systems,
100 local systems form a constellation
and on these constellations dwell the Melchizedek Sons.
These sons are teachers and they teach
in universities, which we call Melchizedek universities.
( everything is natural in creation, the supernatural does not exist )
I am taking advantage of the space I have left to reveal to you
the difference between what is generated and what is created.
What is created always begins as a seed
and must follow growth until maturity.
The beings who are generated are projected into existence
adult size and perfect in the function for which they were formed.

The universe has made us and every other animal on earth. We are growths from its seed still yet to be explained, but no mythic creature began or will end us. When the sun devours back the tiny earth with all the tiny creatures on it then that will be the end of everything and no being will be waiting to loft us off into a fantastic other world of eternal bliss or torment. What we must do here and now is look after each other even though our end will be complete, but it is a possibility that we will nuclear our species to dust before that end.

The professional prayer point is ridiculous, a total non sequitur.

Presence of suffering does not discount the need for a creator. He’s using an emotional argument to add power to his perspective to win over the audience.

Effectively instead of saying God did it, Shermer is saying science did it. It’s science of the gaps.

dying people in a "test" to see if God saves those patients "professionally prayed for" by a secular hospital...
Well, I really put my trust in that! (...Sarcasm...)
I would recommend you to ask any doctor or nurse that has worked for some years on a terminally sick ward - as there is a vast difference between the death of atheists and those of devout Christians.
You may learn something important if you do.
