Where was this filmed? What resort? What run?
ОтветитьNo one who knows anything about skiing ever said “just” bend the knees. We flex and extend 3 joints try and figure them out. Whack Gimmick.
ОтветитьGood information to flex ankles however drive your inside hand to prevent over rotation of upper body
ОтветитьToo much emphasis and waste of time about what not to do...Just like a bad golf video instead of showing proper stance from the very beginning and the reasons why. I prefer a video where only and strictly what is best to do is shown at first and more skiing demonstration than too much talking. I was taught to press on the front of the boots with the shins. Simple and effective because it works.
ОтветитьOnly in the right position you see an up and down motion, and that's what you need to make turns.
Very good video.
A little tipp: if you set your poles don't move your hands. He has a lot of movement, espacially with his left hand. The problem is, that the more motion you have in your upper body, the more balance you lose. The work is in your ankles, knees and hip. The rest above the hip is steady as a rock. Under tension. Just a little movement with your wrist in your hand to set the pole in front of you. That's it.
But setting the poles is a very individual thing. Everybody is unique. So don't be too harsh to yourself if you know you have little movement with your hands. 😊
Y'all have a great and safe winter. 🤙
Great video and instruction. Can you help with a question. No one seems to discuss extension of the uphill ski. We see it ahead of the downhill ski but I have not heard anyone discuss the technicalities. Certainly makes sense for balance and perhaps its something that happens as a result of the motion as pressure is applied to downhill ski and weight taken off the uphill ski. Can you advise please? Many thanks!
ОтветитьWhat length of ski are you using ? SL or GS ski ?
ОтветитьWonderful tips which make a big difference, thanks for the great sharing! Bravo
ОтветитьNo wonder there are so many bad skiers. They must be taking advice from this guy.
ОтветитьThe better term to use is engage the knees. Better still, engage the hill with all of your joints.
ОтветитьYou have too much arm movement with your skiing. You are using it to time your turn which means your feet can be only as quick as your hands. The feet are quicker and more articulate by themselves fully separated form that orchestra conductor arm swing. CARVE won’t help you with that, apparently.
ОтветитьОгромное спасибо тысячи раз! Безусловно очень полезно! Не зная хорошо английского, всё понятно с помощью разных примеров! 🎉🎉🎉🙌❤️
ОтветитьThis makes it clearer, my tutor has told me to stand up more now I know what he means.
ОтветитьWow, this guy is great, but that camera man though!
ОтветитьWell explained ,Ive skied for several years and struggled ,Ive taken 20 lessons or so , this is something I have had a hunch as far as where the pressure is in relationship to my feet and shin pressure in the boot , Accidentaly Ive found the sweet spot , your video explains this and reinforces what I think I am learning and figuring out

ОтветитьGoing on my first ever skiing holiday on Saturday for a week, to Obergurgl. Loving these videos in helping me prepare a bit more! Only done indoor snow slopes so far. Thanks 😁
ОтветитьI have a questions and hoping you could assist me.
When properly carving does the skier slightly lift the outside ski?
For example when I carve left, I lift my right ski slightly to engage.
Great explanation...I can now see what happens in either of these two positions. Will focus on the balls of my feet tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks again!
ОтветитьI lack intuition regarding center of gravity. When I saw the position that leans too far back It thought it looked perfect before I was told it ducked. I often forget the head doesn't weigh much, the ass is the heavy part
Ответить👏 for showing bad interpretations. Far too often instructors will tell you the right way and say "bend more" and people will either lean too far forward or back
ОтветитьNow I know why I have to rest before finishing a slope of 1 km.
ОтветитьGreat video! And I am always wondering how in the world the cameraman can keep skiing and filming at same time without looking ahead,,,,
ОтветитьAwesome video! Thanks so much!
ОтветитьWhere is this video shot?
ОтветитьI reaaally like how you insist on how things should "feel" and interpretation of those otherwise empty words many instructors use. Like "u have to be forward" ...
Like i had an epiphany when someone told me to "push the skis a bit more backwards while staying balanced... instead of trying to lean in...
Square your shoulders in the direction you want to go, keep your hands forward, and your head up. You lean forward or back depending on terrain. Attempt to keep in the middle of the ski, but expect to have to adjust.
ОтветитьVery good video, explains my misunderstanding of movement. I‘ve just done my first ski coach course and I‘ve misunderstood that all along.
ОтветитьNo difference between 1 and 3
ОтветитьA clear interpretation of "do not over bend."
ОтветитьExcellent! I always use the analogy that our ski bodies are in a tune, like a shock absorber in a vehicle, and we move our ankles, knees, hips inside that tube to remain balanced over our skis . This video is great visual of that.
ОтветитьSeems I hear a lot of instructors telling their guests to press their shins against the tongues of their boots. I’ve been wondered if I could teach ankle flexion without talking about it in the context of stance, but I think Tom shows with these mistakes the fallacy of that kind of thinking. I’ll add Tom’s MA to my toolbox. Thank you.
Ответитьgreat video. Especially the foot pressure demo. Very helpful.
ОтветитьHe looks like he's doing a combination of the first two stances that he said where wrong .
ОтветитьThis is helpful. Thanks!
ОтветитьThanks for the awesome tips!
ОтветитьThank you sir.
ОтветитьCarv would really work well with some kind of Goggle AR Screen.
ОтветитьOMG what is this "instructor" guy doing with his arms and torso?!? :-O this should be skiing, not rowing....
ОтветитьGreat great video.
ОтветитьI really like when ppl who can already actually know how to ski, just struggle to show how not to ski. Its like singing false when you can actually sing.
ОтветитьJust today someone on the lift told me "You got to have pressure at the front your boot." Maybe that's true to some extent but this reassures me it's a balanced approach.
Ответитьㄹㅇ 이 강의는 미쳤다....
Ответитьthis looks like the old technics from the 6ties when parallel skiing became popular. Sitting back takes the weight off the tips so that it is easier to make parallel turns by saving muscle strength. Ice skating works about identically.
ОтветитьWow! I was skeptical that you were going to try really hard to sell me your product the whole video but this was actually extremely helpful! I’m a broke high school kid who has all free gear, no job, and I volunteer for day passes so it’s not even an option to buy your product for me. 😁
ОтветитьHow to talk 5 minutes about not bending knees and stand on center position then try carving bend it fully and go back with center of your mass :D Super nice tips <cry> :D. In carving you must to be on back of your skiis while changing edges , then lean while be on turn(doing pressure). All racing/slalom/ gs athlets know that. You should know that too if you want to teach. Real carving is only for experts in skiing.
