Uh ... nice to see what it looks like from the inside, maybe??
ОтветитьWhat if you don't have tree leaves to worry about? Then there wouldn't be material to cause water to go up and over the skylight
ОтветитьAwesome, mental note done.
ОтветитьCelestory design beats skylights hands down.
ОтветитьHow does a curb mount affect ice dams? I ask because my current house has two deck mounted skylights, and i got pretty rough ice dams this year right below each of them. is the deck mounted option better for this, or are there mitigating options? I talked to a builder friend of mine that recommended to install another glazing panel held in by panel molding or somethign similar as far below the actual window as possible (assuming non-operable), and that limits the quick temp difference at the skylight and drastically reduces the risk of dam on the deck mounted ones.
The common adage is that there are two types of skylights. Those that leak, and those that dont leak yet.
if you are going that high, you should build a cricket to divert water and debris
Ответить💪💪🙏🙏🙏
ОтветитьMan I just love the way Matt built his home with so much efficiency. It makes me not want to live in my old leaky old home anymore..
Ответитьincredible design flaw to build it in a way that the leaves pile up above it. Would have expected better from Risinger .
ОтветитьI’m a property adjuster, and nearly every residence I inspect that has skylights there are leaks from said sky lights. The curb mount versus deck mounted tend to have less water intrusion, but skylights are just a problem waiting to happen.
ОтветитьGreat tip but you should use Velux
ОтветитьBackpack blower vac to the rescue
ОтветитьAgree all the way. Only way I go with curb
ОтветитьTwenty years and no issue with my solartubes
ОтветитьNew show idea, rodent proofing your house.
ОтветитьTwo kinds of skylights. Those that leak and those that will leak.
ОтветитьWhere I live triple glaze is standard.
ОтветитьNo trees = no leaves
ОтветитьPricey tho.. $2000 plus per window.
ОтветитьWhy not build a cricket on the back side of the skylight similar to a chimney or other slope angle changes in a roof system
ОтветитьI can’t save this video to my playlist. Lame YT
ОтветитьHow is the curb insulated and to what R-value?
ОтветитьThe best skylight is no skylight at all.
ОтветитьBut skylights leak your heating up to 45 %.
ОтветитьNicest house on the street, I imagine.
Ответитьmaybe it is time to redesign to not have a flat dead end for the debris. or maybe rotate the square sky light windows by 45° (if possible), so the debris will be flushed away more easily.
ОтветитьShow us steve
ОтветитьAwesome!
ОтветитьBubbles leak free for 20 yrs
Ответить" Just the Tip for Yah's " 😂
ОтветитьQuick tip for you. Consider not using skylights. I highly recommend against it. They are a failure point for leaks and.thermal loss.
ОтветитьLooks great , who I contact for installation
ОтветитьI am building a well house and at some point may have to remove 300 feet of pipe to replace something. Is there a skylight that is easy to take out/open?
ОтветитьSeventeen years with my Velux deck mount, and no problems at all. But, I also don't have trees hanging over my house.
ОтветитьNo. The flashing kit that comes with a flush mount skylight is more efficient. The back pan wraps around the skylight. Where a curbmount skylight you have to make your own that doesn't wrap the back.
ОтветитьMissing those crickets brother
ОтветитьInstall deflectors to divert debris and water around the curb.
ОтветитьWe are doing Velux on our new build. We didn't have a choice, Velux only offers a deck mount flashing kit for metal roofs.
ОтветитьPlease do a video on Fakro FXC skylights!
ОтветитьWhat kind of roof is that. Looks nice and clean
ОтветитьMatt, it would be cool if you built the top curb with a ridge from the top going up the roof, so it splits the water and the leaves before it gets to the skylight.
ОтветитьSkylights on metal roof is really a bad idea. It’s not a matter of if they leak. It’s when they will leak.
ОтветитьCurb mount also easy to replace. All are low e rated. Many with solar/battery power shades
ОтветитьI’m in Hawaii and designed my house with clearstory or clerestory windows for passive cooling. I angled the house to face the trade winds. The windward side of the house has five , 5’ casement windows and the ceiling height is 9’. The ceiling is open beam and goes from 9’ to 16’ with the leeward side being 16’. The clerestory windows are on the 16’ wall at the top and are cranked open to let the heat escape. So, the breezes enter through the casement windows and exit up through the clerestory windows, pushing the heat out as it goes. Works great. When there’s no breeze, the heat still rises and escapes through the clerestory windows, though not as quickly. No AC needed.
Could you do a segment on clerestory windows and passive cooling?
INSANELY expensive. Starting at $2,000 for a 17"x17" basic fixed square.
ОтветитьAny way to insulate the curb? We get condensation on our skylight chase.
ОтветитьI install skylights, that's all, for a living, and I'm firmly on the other side, with few exceptions. 80%+ of my new installs are deck mounts.
We don't repair, service, or replace deck mounts any sooner than curb mounts. Curb mounts from the inside are bland and inelegant. Sheetrock typically goes right up to the glass and has a "condo" or "apartment" look. Deck mounts have a wood frame (stain or paint-grade) like your mid-high-end windows. From the outside being so tall, as in your example, the curb mount is an eyesore. Deck mounts have a lower profile on the roof, about 4". An exception would be a metal roof. The deck mount flashing from the manufacturer is the color of the skylight. When doing curb-mounts on a metal roof, you can match the roof color.
My advice as a builder a skylight is a hole in a good roof don't do it
ОтветитьI use that tape measure too, like it.
ОтветитьWhere can I find your super sealer that’s ridged for bottom sill plate to concrete. Been looking forever. You had it on an old video but you never included in any link. Desperate need it asap plz 😢
