My tip is that when working on a blanket that has repetitive steps, (individual blocks, color sections, etc.) I look at the pattern and see how many repetitions there are. I pay attention to how long it takes to complete one block/stripe, etc. and make a schedule for completion. One block a day, two stripes a day, and so on. This helps keep the WIPs from piling up. It also breaks down a large project into an easy series of smaller tasks, and gives a sense of accomplishment every time the daily quota is met. Sometimes I will have two blankets going simultaneously, and either do one repetition of each a day, or switch off every other day. This helps prevent ‘project exhaustion’ and if one blanket takes significantly longer than the other, you feel refreshed from having a finished work partway through the bigger project.
ОтветитьI like weaving in ends!
ОтветитьDoes anyone use 100% cotton yarn for afghans and blankets? How do you manage care? Cotton is so heavy when it is wet. Do you have to re block after washing?
ОтветитьLove the patchwork! I am also a quilter thanks!!
ОтветитьTx for this video. I'm part of a charity knit & crochet group, and there is a great need for baby sets (for prem babies), winter warmer sets (hat & cowl for kids and hat, cowl / infinity scarf, fingerless gloves & socks for adults / the elderly, blankets & toys. I prefer 1 skein projects, or projects that don't require herds of yarn. I find loom knit patterns use the least amount of yarn, so I usually loom knit a hat, then crochet a cowl with the rest of the skein (adding novelty buttons for kids, or crochet embellishments for adults using scrap yarn). Any left over yarn I keep to make a "scrap" blanket. I also do crochet fusion blankets (fabric squares with blanket stitch edge & crochet border - these are relatively quick to make and are much lighter thus easier to wash & maintain.
Perhaps consider doing a compilation video on cost effective (in terms of time & money and using minimal amounts of yarn) projects for charity donations.
Great video! My favorite blankets are done in the round. Large blankets with long chains are so aggravating!
Hobbi has some stitch markers that have hook sizes on them. Easy to clip that onto your project and know what hook to pick back up.
I’ve been a professional dog groomer since 1986. You can say, dogs feed me and pay my bills. I also have cats and I struggle with “do I stop to pet, or continue to crochet”. Cats normally win.
I believe I’ve remembered all that I wanted to say! Thanks bunches!!!
I always make my starting chains longer than needed. If I need 200 chains I will chain 210 or 220. That way when I am doing the first row I always have enough chain stitches and never have to frog the row because I am a couple stitches short. When I get a couple rows done I go back and pick out the extra stitches. Saves me so much frustration!
ОтветитьMade in a week!!!!! OMG, it would take me almost 3 months. I can't crochet that fast.
ОтветитьWhen I start crocheting my granny squares I start a chain of 4 chain stitches I crochet in rows of 4 to 5 rows and then I change colors for the borders
ОтветитьThank you for sharing. 😊
ОтветитьI had already used all these tips myself. I found most myself by trail and error years ago. But they worked and I keep using them always because they help especially the lifeline, first and last stitch markers and the every 20 or so stitch markers.
ОтветитьMy tip is please watch your gauge. Even though I'm a beginner I can teach you a thing or two.
ОтветитьYour bunnies with scarfs are delightful.❤
ОтветитьJust found you on you tube…thank you so much for all tips…will be tuning into your channel thanks
Ответитьwhat I have found to work the best is JUST DOING GRANNY SQUARES it helps if you are a beginner or a advanced crocheter.👍👍
ОтветитьI made a mistake and had to frog my project back. I had weaved m ends in so good I couldn’t get it apart. So I quit sewing them in early. At least until I’m sure there is no reason I would frog. I hate doing it and used to do it as I go. Loved it until I couldn’t frog and ruined my project.
ОтветитьThe best thing I ever did for my self was to create a crochet place. It's a comfy chair with great lighting in an area that is low traffic. When I would sit in my "yarn chair", my kids named it, everyone knew that I was crocheting and not to interrupt me. They would just walk up to where I could see them and wait for me to stop. That way they didn't mess me up if I was counting. I still use this space to crochet even though my kids are all grown and no longer at home.
ОтветитьI have a google photo album with all my crochet projects. I'll add the yarn info, hook size, and patter name/link in the comments or photo description, so I have that to reference later.
I have ADHD and tend to alternate between several projects at a time. And I lose notes way too easily. Having a digital log of my wips helps a lot!
My favorite is the Virus stitch. I’ve made blankets, and shawls with it. It works up quick.
ОтветитьI do the turning crochet tiktok hack and its really changed the game for me! My edges are so straight!
ОтветитьLate tip but noticed working up my 1st big blanket it's easy to feel like things aren't working if you're always looking at it right up close - my pattern that feels not quite right up next to my face works totally fine from 4 feet away.
ОтветитьOn any of my WIP I always keep that hook or hooks with that project until it’s finished. I’d rather get a new hook than remove the “hook in process”. I know this may mean you end up with a large hook collection, but what hooker doesn’t love having a lot of hooks. Love your tutorials and your voice is so sweet and reassuring. Thank You. ❤🧶♥️🧶♥️🧶
ОтветитьBeing a novice in crocheting, I learned the hard way to have enough yarn for your project & to use stitch markers for every 20 stitches.I was trying to make a blanket for my husband & ran out yarn, I'll just order some more, nope! It was discontinued! So now I have a big ball of yarn, that I am making him a scarf with. That was frustrating.Stitch markers & COUNTING your stitches, Very important! I have had to start over like 3 times on his scarf because I would get so far & it would look a bit wonky like it was skinnier or wider than it should be, then I started over using stitch markers & counting my stitches & writing down where I stopped & it is coming along nicely now.Been in the process of moving, so I am almost halfway done with it, but I will finish it soon. Then finish my son's Granny Square Afghan.Hopefully, by November.I will get it done soon too.
I have a notebook that I write down steps from tutorials so if I ever have a problem with internet, I can refer to them to finish up my projects.Because we are gonna be traveling too.😅😊
I was working on a we bare bear plushie for my friend, stopped working on it for a couple years, then completely forgot what hook size and row i was one. It already had a lot of mistakes, so I frogged the whole and restarted. I was much more careful second time around.
ОтветитьGreat info!!
ОтветитьPlan well but stay flexible. Happy is the crocheter who responds intuitively to hiccups in the plan.
ОтветитьTnasisan crochet stich blankets
ОтветитьFinish it yet?
ОтветитьHi Elise I have a question!
I'm making my granddaughter a granny square blanket could I use lion brand yarn a pound of love #4 and loops and threads soft Classic yarn #4 together to make a granny square blanket
Could you please tell me the pattern for the blanket in the background with the pink trim?? It's so pretty!
ОтветитьI struggle when I go to buy yarn online and it gives me grams but nowhere indicates yardage.
ОтветитьMy best tip would be to crochet into the back loop of your foundation chain. It takes way more time but the clean edge is worth it. Plus it’s much easier to crochet in the border.
ОтветитьAs a designer, and later as a crochet editor, I spray blocked most of the projects. Also, placing my hand at the sprayed point, then moving it along as I proceeded to another area, the gentle warmth of my hand also helped to make the yarn lay as I wanted it to.
ОтветитьAs for forgetting the crochet hook size, if I think I am going to set aside a project for a while, I take a plastic bread tab and write the hook size on it with a Sharpie and attach it to the project. They hook on easily and are not likely to come off if you make sure it's hooked on properly.
ОтветитьMy only issue with the Crochet Studio app is…not enough brands of yarn are included! Where are the Malabrigo yarns, Blue Sky Fibers, Fiberstory? What about putting your notes on your project page on Ravelry? I keep my patterns on my iPad and make notes on with my Apple Pencil. I’m working on a granny square cardigan in merino wool. Should I block the squares before or after I join them?
ОтветитьHello, and thank you so much for the tips! Your Quinn blanket is beautiful! Did you use the hook recommended on the yarn (4mm) or the hook recommended in the pattern (5mm)? Also, would you be so kind to share your color pattern or the colors you used? I’d love to recreate it!
ОтветитьI’m an intermediate crocheter, and really like doing lacy granny squares in lightweight yarns. I’m currently learning to make an Irish crochet rose granny square with picots in Aunt Lydia’s #3. I love the idea of crochet lace best.
ОтветитьI keep a Google Sheets form for my projects! It details the pattern, yarn, hook, how many skeins I used, and any notes I have on it. Then I can access it from my phone whenever I need to!
ОтветитьH crochet hook it can make small stitches
ОтветитьHow do you DIY the square blocking tool?
ОтветитьI have recently returned to crochet after many years… the foundation chain row is a game changer. Love it!
ОтветитьWhen I am counting stitches or rows, and someone comes into view, I start counting VERY LOUDLY and they know to just back away slowly.
ОтветитьThe proper way to say that is “done wove!” 🤪
Ответитьyou definitly talk too much....
ОтветитьAWE I LOVE HERRRRRRR
ОтветитьChoose a yarn you like the texture of. If you don’t like how it feels you won’t use it as a blanket. I only use yarn like Bernat blanket yarn because it’s so soft and huggable and cuddly
