The window manufacturers make windows with built in J trim for vinyl siding. I turn to Jeff for his knowledge and expertise. In most cases, especially in having to deal with building inspectors, his understanding of building codes will keep you out of trouble. In my opinion, installing the waterproofing membrane and calking is an extra, inexpensive step to protect the biggest investment you'll ever make, your house. Even if it is no longer necessary. This is a how to install a window a different way and Jeff has other videos using the waterproofing membrane with a window or door install.
ОтветитьDude has one viral sloppy drywall video and magically turns into a master tradesman overnight
ОтветитьYou definitely make it look easy thank you! if my siding is installed on firing strips should I add those strips around window to buff the window out more before install ?
ОтветитьHey jeff, love your videos. I have an old house on replacing the windows and siding on. I would really like to use this type of window with a nailing flange, we are taking the old vinyl off and leaving on the old wood siding. Since the surface is not as smooth, can I still use this window? Or do I need to use a replacement window.
Second question, vinyl windows can come with an integrated J channel, seems like that would be the best way to go to reduce moisture. Wondering why I don’t see very many of those on videos. Thanks again.
There's no pretending when your working for real. Ya'll hear how he breathing. I so admire this guy and his depth of knowledge!
ОтветитьThat nib you cut off is the spacer to give it a gap for caulk.
Ответитьi wanted windos 7
ОтветитьScrewing windows inside might be more safer?
ОтветитьWow did not know you had sons
ОтветитьThanks Jeff! When nailing in the flange to the house, I'm naturally terrified of using a hammer anywhere the frame holding the glass, and would prefer the grip of a screws teeth rather than the friction of a nail. I assume using drywall screws are a big 'no-no' but are there any types of thin profile screws that would be okay to use for this procedure?
ОтветитьHi Jeff, thanks for your video. do I need pressure treated 2x4 or just the regular one?
ОтветитьDoes this house have clapboard siding under the Tyvek? Is there insulation in the walls? I ask because I'm dealing with a similar situation--old 1930s house, balloon framing, vinyl siding over wood siding over actual 2x4 studs. Trying to figure out if I need to remove the wood siding and replace with proper sheathing, or if I can put house-wrap over it as is. There's no insulation, but I'm not sure I can add any without introducing moisture problems due to the balloon framing, no house-wrap, and no sheathing situation.
ОтветитьWait...expansion foam!? MANY experts on YT and the rep I bought my windows from (Ringer) are absolutely adamant that you NEVER use expansion foam around a window. You cannot control the expansion and it could push it out of square and it also holds water because it's so porous.
ОтветитьThis looks wrongly done somehow
ОтветитьCudos! Very informative. Thank you.
ОтветитьYou are a terrific teacher.
I learned alot from my past bosses.
I thank them everyday
Keep it up.
I was looking for Windows 1O
ОтветитьThanks!
ОтветитьThank you! I like your presentation!))👍
ОтветитьThanks again for your great video! I'm at the very beginning of replacing windows around my house! VERY beginning. I measured and re-measured them and then measured them one more time. All are measured from the inside except two that are surrounded by brick. I measured them from the outside even though there is no difference between inside and outside measurements. Particulars:
1. Two big windows are surrounded by brick on the outside.
2. Two other double-wide windows I'm replacing HAD BEEN surrounded by brick until a tornado ripped the brick façade off while blowing out the windows and frames. I'm THINKING of replacing them with bay windows as they face the front of the house. (Would there be issues with replacing old 1970s windows with bay windows?)
3. Of course, the bath window is opaque and tempered.
There's a total of 7 or 9 windows, depending on type/configuration (e.g., bay windows count as one each).
I ran across some advice somewhere that I should reduce all measurements by 1/2" on each side. Do you think this is necessary?
Finding a wholesale supplier has been challenging because everyone wants to install them, too.
I took your advice to check out the Tuff Stuff Pro 14 Foam Gun. You should check it out because there is an upgrade that might influence shoppers!
Thanks for your insights, advice, and your hard work on the videos! Thanks to your sons, too.
Question: The BlueSkin tape you are using? Where can someone get that, the link in the description takes me to some different Zip Tape product that seems like you need a roller to apply... Or what is the product name/number? Is it just a Polypropylene film acrylic adhesive tape?
ОтветитьWhat brand of windows do you recommend. All seasons. Something that won’t break the bank but are good windows california. Snow 3 months out of year
ОтветитьI love your content! By watching your videos, I am planning my very own She Shed! I would love it if you could do a video on board and batten siding! Thank you, you are appreciated!!
Ответитьthese new install windows are way less expensive, just need to cut ur siding away a bit and build it back....which is probably the hard part with an old house with wood siding.
ОтветитьThis was very informative. Thanks brother.
ОтветитьI missed the sill pan.
ОтветитьHow to figure out to replace window from inside or outside of the house?
ОтветитьYou forgot to caulk the flange before u put the window in and u didn’t use any Bitcathan tape??????!?????????
ОтветитьThanks Jeff. We love you!
ОтветитьEnjoyed the vid but you’ve got the wrong title for the content
Ответитьhell of a good video
ОтветитьNo! you really didn't mean "EXPANSION SPRAY FOAM." True there exists a product the is a specially made spray foam, but look for the can that is for windows because it doesn't expand. If expansion foam is used and the window is one that opens; it may not open. If it is one that does not open there is no reason to allow expansion foam to put unneeded stress on the window. As for relying on "House Wrap" as water proof - sorry, but your are wrong there as well. Water vapor passes through the "House Wrap" and turns back into water (it's called condensation). If in doubt read the manufacturers product info. and don't believe me or anyone else on the internet. Lastly, a thumbs down or any constructive comments are not "Haters." (JF)
ОтветитьI only trust you Jeff...Im gonna try this next week!!!....Wish I could use ur Gorgeous Sons 4 the Project!!!💖💋💖
Love n God Bless
It's not a good way to install windows not standard at all .
