I have tried both optical and mechanical and the main difference I found is that optical was VERY light switches which I would acciendly press.......a lot. In terms of response, I did not see any difference between either so if there is a difference it likely would only be visible if you play on a professionally competitive level. As stated previously, the main difference I saw was the optical switches being incredibly light which you would think would be great for gaming but honestly, both felt comfortable to use. The big difference was in everyday use as I would constantly hit the optical switches on accident even while just resting my hand on my keyboard typing. Now granted I had optical linear switches and mechanical tactile switches, but ultimately the mechanical ones just felt better. Also, my optical linear switches were FAR louder than my mechanical tactile switches.

There is an argument for longevity but with keyboards being hot-swappable and with the already great lifespan of mechanical switches that just does not really matter tbh. Not to mention that optical switches do not have many options. I think the only really needed place for optical switches is in a mouse mostly cause it removes the risk of a mouse having the double-click issue.

After using Razer Huntsman Tournament Edition (optical) i tried Corsair K65 (mechanical) . Mechanical feels too heavy and takes forever to activate. My left hand building muscles with these mechanical switches.

Im trying to find out what is the lifespan of the laser/infrared lights used to actuate the optical switch and how does it compare to the mechanical ones in this term. I'm wondering will the switch replacement prolong the keaboard life itself or just the ''key/switch'' part. I hope my question does not sound stupid.
