I adopted a German shepherd/Gray wolf mix and he was the same way with people, except he would take a little longer to warm up to those he accepted as friends. Still, that list was very short and I was thrilled that he put me on it. Now he is my best buddy and just wants to lean up against me and get scratches. Wolfdogs are a handful, but their love is so incredible it makes it worth the effort.

Sonja and Brutus were the same way. My wife and I were the only ones allowed.
