I do that too and love going out in different eras clothing. I buy from online and charity shops, some modern clothing works well too for victorian and edwardian clothing. It's fun to do.

This is exactly what I want to do, but i bought several cheap imitations and I´m not sure how to combine it. Probably I will try to modify it (or destroy it in the process) I love how you take ideas so easily although i prefer longer skirts as Bernadette does. But what kills me it´s my obssession with the shoe heels, impossible to find in Spain.

Regarding the term "historybounding": I first heard it used by V. Birchwood on her channel (recommend for historical fashion lovers btw ;)), had only a vague idea what it from the context meant, none where it came from. I actually clicked this video to find a more precise definition and it was exactly what I needed. Maybe not my favorite word but it serves its purpose well enough imo. 🤷‍♀

I kinda do this sometimes. I actually prefer men's attire from the 14th century so in autumn I go for a sweater dress+leggings+boots to cut a similar profile without being conspicuous.

I wanted to write this comment in sort of a letter form, but then I felt strange, so here goes. For 18 ish years, I’ve suffered chronic back pain, which, with the mis-management of that pain, and the onset of peripheral neuropathy in my legs from my knees to my toes, I ended up severely depressed, shutting myself in, and often having suicidal thoughts. Even the medications for depression that I had been prescribed never seemed to work. Recently, I was referred to a Ketamine Therapy treatment center. It has been like being in a nightmare for years and finally waking up, realizing your life is not that bad, seeing beauty for the first time, (though the pain is still there but I’ll resume that battle again soon) and it has caused me to come to the conclusion that time is too short to worry about other people’s opinions. I’m relearning my sewing skills again, and I plan on making as many historical fashions as I can. I’m planning on starting to wear them everywhere, no matter how many strange looks or comments I might get. I’ll never be rich enough to be considered “eccentric” so I’ll be happily jaunting around while being labeled “crazy”. If crazy is what makes me happy, nobody else’s opinions are going to change me. Thank you for being you, and for being such a joyful inspiration!

My cousin has been wearing homemade and inspired clothing from the early 1900 eras ('00, '10, '20, etc) basically as soon as she learned to sew. I thought it was weird to start(toxic family) but as an adult nerd I'm currently working on making my own closet of Ancient Greecian mixed modern themed clothing.

as someone who basically only wears masculine or androgynous styles, i'd love to try historybounding both with typical mens' fashions, and with womens' converted into something more masculine. i already do a lot of puffy-sleeved shirts and vests so something more elaborate wouldn't be too foreign :)

i'm in love with local early 1500's styles, but some of them are so extravagant i find it hard imagining how to tone them down, haha!

I really want to dress like a medieval nun. To me the medieval dress is so modest looking, and I really only go out to the grocery store, Church, and trail walking in a big city. I wear a long black linen dress, lightweight cotton veil, and planning on getting a skirt hike for the trail walking.

I have starting history bounding a lot more often and am loving it. I basically dress almost like a Hobbit from Hobbiton, but my skirt goes to just above my knee. I've had to get into sewing to make the pieces that I want. You've definitely inspired me. I notice that I get stared at more, but one little girl told me that I look like a princess so I always think of her whenever I notice that I'm getting stares.

In everyday life I wear a mixing of the 1970s and German Romanticism, because I love frock coats, as a German male. But I am too coward to wear my early medievial and reenactment and larp clothes all the time. The only thing I add of that to my clothes is that I sew often braids on for example jackets and similar ;)

But I love the idea and started to play around with this stuff in my head.

If anyone is into medieval dress/history I HIGHLY recommend looking up the Society of Creative Anachronism. They have groups all over the US and in some other countries. It's a fusion of cosplay and historical reenactment, but not strictly either of the two. It's basically just you living in the medieval era. Very historically accurate clothes, food, tents, activities etc but your own essence with it. I love it so much and ive missed it over these past couple weird years, but they should be opening up again!

I know.... I wish I had the courage to wear what I really want to wear... not what I must wear to seem normal. Your outfit was glorious, in a boring world, you are not boring. What I find sad is so many of us are in a uniform. We might not think of it as one but everything IS uniform. I am so profoundly tired of jeans and t shirts. I am a retired woman living on 10 aces (I am also very, very plump. OK overweight, the truth!). I only go to town when the lettuce is entirely rotten and I need new salad makings. I'm lucky I see three people in any one week and yet, I still conform to blue jeans and ugly tee shirts, why, exactly? Why not something with a hint of the medieval?
I am trying to find inspiration to sew. You are giving it to me.
I've done my hair the way you do but my hair refuses to grow any longer so I can't get it to stay up. I'm Italian-American and my grandmother pretty much wore her hair up every day of her life.

I love that you say "If you haven't learnt to sew, or aren't very good at it YET." If that's you, keep going! It's totally badass to just BEGIN learning a new skill! My Mum taught me to sew on my Great-Grandmothers treadle machine when I was 7, because I kept badgering her (and she didn't trust me with her 'new' electric machine (it was over 50 years old at the time). Even mastering handstitching to hem your skirt, or sewing on a button is a valuable life skill. My daughter is now a designer, but she began her career doing alterations and repairs. We were always amazed how many people came in on the daily for a simple fix such as this.

I've gotten used to the term "historybounding" but I don't particularly like it, because of its derivation from Disneybounding. One - why is it BOUNDING? Why that verb? Are you leaping into the clothing or something? Also sorry, I just don't like Disney! I know it's pedantic. I'm fine with the term historybounding (because what else are you going to call it?) but I do sort of wish it was something else. I'd probably just go with something prosaic like "historically inspired dress/looks" or "neo-Victorian/Neo-renaissance/etc"

I've been drawn to the Edwardian era for as long as I can remember. My hair is finally long enough for a Gibson Girl look. Now I'm searching out lace tops and other types of blouses that evoke that Edwardian aesthetic. The trick for me is that I absolutely hate skirts. I always wear pants. At first I thought it would be impossible to history bound the Edwardian era but I decided, no, it's history bounding not historically accurate bounding so I'm actually having a great time finding pieces that I can wear with my jeans and with my full on Gibson Girl hair I really do feel beautiful.
