Netgate is a better home option...
ОтветитьIf PA did a home version that didn’t cost the earth that would be mega.
ОтветитьI wish they had more budget options for home guys like me trying to gain some experience. $1100 is a serious chunk of change for a firewall to use in a lab environment not to mention that license is probably yearly...
ОтветитьYou commented "for me if security is important, there is not a better firewall than Palo in my honest opinion. Have used many other vendors and Palo is top notch to keep your network protected". Could you please do some comparison video to these "other vendors" you mentioned, with some arguments why you consider Palo Alto "the best".
ОтветитьWhat amazing RACK in your home lab! Congras!
Ответитьextremly expensive
ОтветитьExcellent video LOVE finding fellow content creators who love to to teach IT 😊
ОтветитьBeside the price, Palo Alto boot times are horrendous, they sometimes hang, and also during configurations. Open source is starting to become popular, but for me, they also have their downsides. Being an older, impatient guy, I don't want to have to manually incorporate third party IDS/IPS software within a firewall. I want rapid, and smooth sailing with my configurations, and experience at least, IDS incorporations within the firewall, whether physically or virtually. Because of this, my choice is Fortinet.
Ответитьgood video I am also a big fan of Palo Alto. But it's so expensive...
Where can i buy a lab unit with the subscription as you indicated in your video?
Can you please make sure your microphone is not picking up music playing on a radio in another room - It ruins the video when you have music at the same level. It's similar to being in a crowded room with a lot of conversations going on.
ОтветитьWay too expensive for home use.
Ответить<3 You know they also have a Palo Alto Container firewall :D Just sayin!
ОтветитьHello everyone, what do you think about this provider - EXO Secure? They sell palo alto solutions including the lab pa-440 and they also sell license renewals.
ОтветитьCable ISP's provide >1Gbps service these days and motherboards ship with 2.5GbE, so it's a big fat NOPE if it doesn't have 2.5 or 10GbE ports.
ОтветитьListed at $1500 US. A bit much for home use, even if you can find a way to buy one.
Ответить$1600 for a box that no one can really buy unless they find a PA partner that will sell to you. Nah. I'm good with a Protectli running Untangle.
ОтветитьI don't even have to watch the video to agree lol. I have a 440 at home too and it's awesome.
ОтветитьGood video but I would much rather have a Netgate 6100 running Pfsense for half the cost and no licensing payments. Thank you for the video! Always love to see firewall stuff.
ОтветитьPaloAlto considers as HighEnd solution in firewall world, but it's too expensive for home usage as home user firewall. Not hardware, software and licensing is expensive part of this trip.
ОтветитьGreat video, thank you❗
Can you recommend a vendor to buy the lab unit and license from? Palo Alto doesn't seem to make that part easy. Any help or guidance is appreciated. 🙏🏽
Pricing isn't bad at all. I've looked at Fortinet as well, but I'll be comparing the two now that I know the pricing. Currently using OPNsense.
Ответитьthank you for the video, just ordered this model today :)
ОтветитьI'm good with my VyOS zone based firewall ;)
Don't really think any IPS/IDS is a good security system. So most firewalls are not for me...
the best home enterprise grade firewall is ufw :D
ОтветитьNot at $1600
ОтветитьDidn't even see the video yet, but I agree 110%. Too bad it's hard to buy one as most PA partners will not sell to you, especially without a VAT (but some rare ones do).
To expand a bit, PA is, if not the best, in the top two enterprise firewalls and work great. I manage a whole lot of them at work and compared to anything else I worked on, it's so much better
Regarding the 400 series tho, it is a shame that with lot of home internet services (and smb lines too) going in the multi-gig speed (at least here) the lack of sfp+ or multi-gig ports is a bit of a shame. 800 series would be better but the price spikes if you go there, even for lab units last I checked.
