calling for help, but no help came

I come back to this video every now and then and man, there's always just something so haunting about the theory behind it. Yeah the music gives an unsettling vibe itself, but the whole concept of the champions dying alone in the beasts,probably secretly hoping help will come is just so dark. And to top that off in order to free the beasts from Ganon's control you essentially have to walk through the tomb of those friends you've forgotten.
Death isn't a theme that's explored a lot in Zelda games, especially the deaths of allies, so it's just pretty melancholic to think about. Every champion died alone, defending their respective beast, and you never really know what happened to them exactly or even see their bodies nor graves. It's eerie.
I think Mipha's is probably the saddest, seeing as she had the deepest personal connection to Link out of all the champions.

The SOS signal comes in later in Vah Medoh's theme, meaning Revali hesitated to call for help.

Honestly after i read some of these comments im thinking there was some AI in the divine beasts that were the ones sending these codes as soon as they get boarded by the blights and then their SOS signal being overlapped by the search and destroy then just destroy as they go into their more neutral state after ganon gets held back by zelda 100 years ago.

Imagine staninding in the city and hearing the beasts (roars) and dont understand whats happening and then like a day later the beasts are crazy and theire bringing trouble

Dang, I can’t even hear about it, but just with hearing about Mipha’s progressively increasing signal, along with Revali’s frantic signal, this is almost making me tear up. It’s sad to think about.

Even the simple SOS calls have their personalities etched into them.
Urbosa’s call just fades into the background, for me it’s the hardest one to hear. She sent a quiet signal probably because she thought she could hold on a little longer, she didn’t want to rush anybody that was fighting in the attack.
Daruk’s also fades but Urbosa and Daruk were most likely the older champions, they were probably calmer about dying and thought that the others were more important.
Mipha’s call starts right away, she was very skilled with her spear, but the blight probably would’ve frozen the water, ensuring her death. Mipha’s call is for me the most prominent, she was incredibly panicked, and the call becomes more panicked as the song continues. She didn’t want to die, none of them did.
Revali’s call doesn’t start until late in his song, the Rito always sing Revali’s praises but he was very deserving of that praise, he was able to fend off a blight that was specially designed to kill him for a very long time. But once he realizes he isn’t going to beat this blight, his call becomes loud, panicked, screaming, and desperate for help. And it goes for a short time before it flatlines, showing his exact time of death.

Revali was waiting for the last champion to send their SOS (which was urbosa) so he could he the last champion to send help cuz ego

Sad thing also is that they probably didn't know that there was a enemy inside the divine beast and meaning to say they were caught off guard... The champions were sent back to their divine beast by zelda to help them but they were caught in their own battles... Mipha sent her SOS first since she's the nearest of them, trying to warn the other champions that there's a enemy inside their divine beast but it was to late...

God this is dark I can imagine all the champions being killed and crying for help. ( but also all the divine beast are weak to there champions weapons, Waterblight can be hit from afar thunderblight can be perryed and get in some hits as well windblight can be shot in the eye and fire light can be hit with heavy attacks though that’s the only one that really makes sense because Daurk doesn’t have bombs).

Everyone says they're beeps, when it's piano notes, so I spend several minutes looking for beeps, when I had to be searching for piano notes.

I got chills from this. I know they’re not real but just imagining the fear and pain they went through is just terrifying. They spent their final moments sending the signal just for nobody to hear until 100 years later.

Its seems to be implied that the beasts had a sort of animalistic ai, given how the champions talk to them when they prepare to stike ganon, it makes it creepyer if you think that the ai lost controll of its body and all it could do to help was send out a sos as it wached its beloved champion get minced

something interesting i found out listening to these is that they always have a distorted version on the right ear and the sos playing on the left

I searched this up in the morse code website. The first half came up SOS, the second half came up SAD.

I played botw for the first time a few weeks ago after beating totk, and I made the mistake of going to Vah Naboris first. Not only was the boss the hardest, but you do not know how terrified I was when I first flew over the Gerudo mountains and saw Vah Naboris. Something about it just wandering the desert, kicking up a sandstorm, able to strike lightning at whoever gets close enough, and being just a 15-30 second walk away from Gerudo Town and Kara Kara Bazaar gave me the chills. It also didn't help that it was the most strange looking divine beast. I already thought all of the divine beast themes were scary (especially Naboris) but now that I know about the SOS and SAD morse code lore it makes the themes much worse. BUT DAMN THE MUSIC WHEN YOURE SHOOTING NABORIS' FEET 👌👌👌

The champions are strong no doubt but the fact that calamity ganon clickity clocked his brain into making 4 robots managing to control all shekaih tech in a minimum spend of 100 years is crazy

For those that can't hear it, in game the signals are in the left (SOS) and right (SAD) if you use headphones... here it's mixed so it's a bit harder to separate the overlapping signals

The lore behind the signals is friggin depressing too...

Vah Ruta (Mipha) signal is sent immediately when the theme starts, showing she knew she was going to die the moment Waterblight showed up... the SAD signal drowns it out quick, showing she couldn't fight back at all...

Vah Rudania (Daruk) happens quickly but is soft, showing he knew he was going to die and needed the help but didn't want attention drawn to him only... again, the SAD signal drowns out his SOS rather quick...

Vah Medoh (Ravali) happens late (about 10 seconds late into the theme) and is exceedingly frantic (compared to the others, his SOS tones are much more varied), showing he didn't want help but by the time he sent it, it was far too late and he was beyond terrified... should also note that because his signal was all over the place in panic, it meant he was signaling to ANYONE for help since only
Rito could reach Medoh in a timely manner... ALSO should note that because his signal is late, it most likely means he was the last one to die, which goes back to his frantic SOS signal being for ANYONE to hear...

Vah Naboris (Urbosa) is also quick but soft, showing Urbosa had similar feelings as Daruk, though her theme mixed with the booming piano replaced by the SAD signal shows she was properly thrashed more than the others, possibly suffering the worst fate out of the 4 in terms of brutality...

So, for the past 100 years, those souls were trapped. Sending SOS.

Ok. Time to go cry.

Mipha was ambushed, as she was the biggest threat of the sudden attack by the calamity. Killed before she could be backed up and have a fight of attrition that she would have won. Ice to bar her movements and Spear combat so mipha didn't have a reach advantage.

Daruk fought a shielded opponent with a nuclear bomb attack. Daruk didn't have enough power to take its shield down. All it had to do was wear him down without his healer friend.

Urbosa was robbed of every tactical advantage. Lightning rods, electricity resistance, and flight against a defensive dervish fighting style she was one of the last to go, but there was never hope in surviving. Just holding it off

Revali fought an opponent with endless swarms to overwhelm any position he tried to snipe from. Chased again and again for hunt. It took the longest, but by the time he had the time and desire to call for help, it wasn't a request for assistance. It was a plea for his life.

Link and zelda were cut off by the Guardian stalkers and prevented from saving any of them

i have never even played breath of the wild but i heard about this from a friend without context and this is absolutely Bone Chilling wtf

even if Link hadn't been horribly injured and ushered into a healing sleep, the chances of him saving everyone was slim to none.

Everyone talks about “Revali didn’t want to send an SOS signal!”, but noone talks about Daruk. His SOS signal is very low, and during it, an extremely aggressive instrument plays, it’s likely he full on DIED when sending it

Revali sounds very desperate...

Medoh's signal is sent 16 seconds into it's theme song, way later than the rest. Implying Revali was too proud and stubborn to seek help up until he had no other choice

I’ve heard that the reason Urbosas just flatlines after only like….3 beeps I think is because she was quickly defeated and the long notes are her dying screams as she’s continually shocked to death while pushing out the sos…..
