What Brenda Vaccaro Thought About Working With Faye Dunaway on 'Supergirl'

Faye didn’t really put on an act to play Joan Crawford. That was all her.

She got on Faye’s LAST nerves 😂😂😂

My father was on the crew of Mommy Dearest and QUIT because of her! He refused to put up with her BS. And Brenda - my favorite Golden Girls guest star ever!

But I’m sorry Faye Dunaway was incredible in that movie! It’s a testament to her that I wanted to be her just as much as I wanted to be super girl. Lol

Faye Dunaway had to realize that after the villain in Supergirl, the next stop was a guest shot on Dynasty. For an Academy Award winner this had to be embarrassing.

Acting and indeed performing arts in any medium can easily create neurotic behaviors. It is not easy for every talent to manage. Some breeze through it all. Others become total hell to work with. Not everyone is Angela Lansbury or a Sally Field type. Many leading ladies especially back then lost the ability to de stress. Consequently thier livers became a mess spouting rage and/or feeding into addictions. The biz also last century chose people based more on the entirety of the performers skill set . Nowadays in film its all what ever is easiest in the role where the dialogue could be managed by virtually anyone and the look more generic. In one way then we got incredible performances with unique faces and equally mesmeric vocal quality with strong acting chips full of variation and delivery. Sadly now its serviceable, hyper trendy even just an unfinished raw style. Dunaway was very theatrical and could command the winds. As Selena in "Supergirl" she was disturbingly believable as she was utterly camp. No small feat frankly. An incredible American actress. A true legend.

She must have stayed out of her eye line.

With a few rare exceptions, actors have short careers and it's stressful because one bad picture and you might be out for good. If I were in "the biz" I'm not sure if being in constant jeopardy would make me act super sweet to everyone or make me act like a total jerk. It's not all champagne and roses.

That's why she was good playing Joan Crawford.

So now we're all supposed to feel sorry for her because she bi polar. I've known a few people through the years including my sister and they don't treat people like garbage. No excuse Miss Dunaway. Bi polar means periods of manic behavior and depression not being a b#$@ch to people.

I always thought Faye was over rated as an actress. She definitely had star quality in her youth but a limited range as an actor. The actress whose most impresses me is Cate Blanchett.

It's so sad to hear these countless rude outbursts from Faye Dunaway to fellow colleagues. Mental illness is no excuse for poor behaviour and it's the sheer consistency of them all that paints a pretty bleak picture about her. I have always been a fan of her work, but as a person, not so much.

Faye Dunaway was a descent actress,but I would have considered myself flattered for Brenda Vaccaro to look my direction.

Watching Supergirl, it was so obvious there was tension between them. But Brenda Vaccaro is such a pro and good soul…she would never let on during an interview.

Vaccaro is so right——Faye’s work ‘when she was young’ was brilliant. Later she became so mannered and remote and very Joan Crawfordish, the way Joan C was like a zombie in her later films.

Supposedly, while making “Chinatown”, Dunaway wasn’t responding the way director Roman Polanski wanted. So he yanked a hair out of her head. Needless to say, Faye went ballistic.

Later, when Dunaway and Jack Nicholson are filming the scene where Jake has followed Evelyn to the mystery woman, Polanski came to the car. Dunaway wanted him to bend down to the window, Dunaway is alleged to have thrown a cup of urine into Polanski’s face as payback for the hair incident. Neither person says they recall the urine incident.

While its hilarious that Faye was lying for the camera about how her and Brenda got on well i do agree they both had a good chemistry together with knowing how to play off each other

FAYE was perfectly cast as evil villain in SUPERGIRL
