Either of these work for you guys? What pests should I do next?
ОтветитьFunny...getting a grocery list together for the garden pests....beer for the slugs, sardines for the earwigs, soy sauce for the rolly ponies!!! Gee, now we might have to recruit a centipede who happens to own his own roller skates that can carry a tray around to serve all of them!!! Well, it's an idea......👏😁👌❤❤❤
ОтветитьIf you're not entirely sure what you're dealing with, a multi-step system is best. Buried cans with soy sauce for the earwigs, a ring of diatomaceous earth around the bases of the plants for the slugs, a soap solution with a bit of the pesticide of your choice (natural or otherwise) for the aphids or what have you, clearing mulch around the bases of the plants and ensuring no leaves are touching the ground if possible. Another thing is to sterilize the area in and around the garden before planting, a mixture of janitorial ammonia and a permethrin will kill just about any pest while evaporating off withing a few days. Keep your grass and weeds near the garden in check as well.
ОтветитьOil traps will attract larger predators. A skunk or a possum made off with a 1 cup mason jar with oil/soy trap. BEWARE! they will tear up the area they are placed next to ( i guess from a 'spill')
ОтветитьThey are pretty alien, but now that I know they eat aphids, I want more of them lol
ОтветитьFor the sardine juice trap, what happens when you water your plant? Doesn’t seem like a good long term solution
ОтветитьI found some hiding in my corn yesterday. Will they harm it?
ОтветитьSoy sauce works well if you don’t have the oil
ОтветитьThese European earwigs will get inside your peppers. This morning I found two in my bell peppers.
ОтветитьAnother organic way to catch earwigs is yeast+sugar. Mix 1 part yeast + 2 parts sugar and dissolve in very warm water to activate the yeast, the mixture should start bubbling. Poor the solution onto a cup or tin and burry at dirt level like Kevin did his sardin oil. It will catch a lot of earwigs, rolly pollies and slugs. Make sure to change it often because it is going to stink so bad in a few days, especially if it's hot out.
ОтветитьThat’s a no to sardine oil ….racoons would come by the dozen
ОтветитьCaught earwigs munching on almost all my seedlings... I won't be swayed by their potential benefits until they cease their destruction.
Ответитьnot a true pest my eye. they are everywhere and they eat everything green.
ОтветитьCould careless bout these pests ourside i get them by the many in the house going into pots n pans fridge even had one on my calve & bit me in the shower horrible.
ОтветитьMy boy busted out the magazine where did you get one lol thank you for the tips!
Ответитьthe raccoons will dig it up of course
ОтветитьI do have too many and they are eating everything.
ОтветитьEven flytrap Venus didnt work for me it killed
Ответить@epicgardening,
Today I have found My Dahlia plant's all the branches decimated. I put slug pellets but no sign of slugs, also I didn't see any earwig either. The soil was moist so that's mistake from my side. What could be the problem?
Anchovies or sardines 🤔
ОтветитьI got these in my apartments and I am pissed right now
ОтветитьI have a Server Phobia of ALL BUGS!!😬
How do I get rid of them coming into my apartment from outside & in the basement?
The earwigs are out of control in my yard. They eat EVERYTHING!! My dahlias and sunflowers have bloomed with no petals. It’s so sad 😢
ОтветитьI tried diatomaceous earth to keep them out of my bird feeder. It do not work. I was using food grade because I did want to harm the birds. That might be why it didn't work.
ОтветитьThese are really creepy! They get into my house and I find them crawling on the floor.
ОтветитьIn Michigan we get them in the house super bad in the summer. I never see them outside. It’s interesting to me to see you doing all of this outside. But you are in a different state.
ОтветитьThey’re living in my sweet corn! I was trying to harvest and they’re everywhere 😩
ОтветитьThis is Ceti Alpha Five
ОтветитьOh my god, I'm freaking out with earwig itches.... lol They have eaten a lot of my plants... ugh
ОтветитьI have heard that the really aggressive plant/root eaters are german earwigs which are bigger--and more prone to burying their heads into your Roses and Hollyhocks sucking them dry. Has anyone else heard that?
ОтветитьHi..if the earwigs is in my home ? How do i get rid then?
ОтветитьI get them in the house. So, yeah, killing them all sounds fine by me. They can eat "soft-bodied insects" OUTDOORS.
You just rolled up a magazine like a tube, and they go in there? And stay in there? And don't run out in a frenzy when you pick it up?
Do they kill / damage trees by removing bark, etc.?
ОтветитьGreat helpful video Kevin! These ugly thangs decimated my spinach & lettuce. I did the oil & soy sauce trap but I didn't see any results I'm gonna add some lemon. Thanks again 🌱🤗
ОтветитьThank you
ОтветитьBlack dirt is cheap and can be grown in very well if you combine it with a little glass sand. Combine just enough glass sand in your black dirt to break up the black dirt and make it soft and broken up. There are a lot of good fertilizers that can help with the nutrients. You don't have to place so much mulch and other composts. They are a harbor for pests. You can compost and make sure you grind it up really good and then make a tea with them to water your plants. You can also use magazines and newspapers to help fill up those big containers. You can go around the neighborhood and collect the news papers and magazines people no longer want. Keep them real deep and don't crumple them. Keep them flat and press them tight. Then pests won't get in with them and they will take forever to decompose.
ОтветитьMy siblings and I used to call them Pincher bugs.
Currently dealing with a mega load of ear wigs. Thanks for this video 😊
I know you posted this 3 years ago, but thanks for the tips! I suspect earwigs are munching on some of my young plants and will give these suggestions a try!
ОтветитьI had an issue with earwigs in my daughters flower box. I couldn’t grow zinnias or sunflowers without them being destroyed. I decided to put Dutch white clover seed in the box and now my zinnia and sunflowers are left alone. I guess there’s enough tender greens for them to eat now.
ОтветитьI hope this works because they are now destroying my Black Eye Suasn, Batchelor Buttons, they ate a whole Cosmos, & one of my Callord Greens.
ОтветитьDoes the plant die when they eat half the plant leaf?
ОтветитьScrew the seedlings I don’t want those ugly bastards falling off my house onto my head and billions of them crawling over my wood bridge 🤢🤮 probably wouldn’t care so much if I didn’t smoke cigs I’m out even hour and they love the night time I also seen a few slugs like a foot long couldn’t believe it
ОтветитьKevin I found too much wood chips really attracts them. Thanks for your info, getting rid of my wood chips and incorporating your recommendations.
ОтветитьI am glad you're not being unnecessarily ruthless about it and just trying to keep a rational, even-handed approach. I think a lot of people get into an "ew, bugs!" mindset and don't think about what good they accomplish, too, so it's good to see you be reasonable about them.
ОтветитьEarwigs are detestable but I finally think that they are not a big issue. I even begin to think that they have some usefulness. As was Freddie Mercury singing: If you can't beat them, join them (John Deacon).
It seems to me that they are less numerous than they were say in the 90's. They were crawling everywhere, on the brick walls of my house, on clothes let overnight, in peonies, echinops, daylilies etc.
Now they are more discreet.
I'm dealing with earwings the are in my strawberries which is in living soil lost 3/4 of my summer harvest to them 😫 I'm thinking I should move the strawberries to a different bed without mulch. Would Sardine oil mess with my biology of it was to get in the soil
ОтветитьI know that earwigs are bad but instead of killing them you can take care of them as a pet
ОтветитьWhy do we have to kill everything? 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
ОтветитьThanks for showing the food tin! I keep telling ppl cheap friskies shreds cat food works great as an attractant but then couldn’t figure out a good container for the oil…I’ll just use the cat food tin! Duh! 😂
ОтветитьThx for the tips. Can you help me with Japanese beetles? They are killing all my Basil and raspberry
