I live in the EU and I am extremely unhappy with these changes. iPhone was a secure and relatively simple system. Now everything will be at risk and complicated. There will be thefts, mess with multiple suppliers, theft of money from banks and many problems that are related to Android.
This is VERY BAD news.

It’s about time that Apple finally lets Xbox and other game streaming services to have their own dedicated streaming apps on iOS devices instead of using the iOS web browser. It will be interesting to see all of this show up on iOS devices. Can’t wait to try them out. I wonder if this would pertain to the newly announced Apple Vision Pro, the Mac Computers and the Apple TV as well. It’s going to be interesting.

“Alternative” App Store aka Apple doesn’t want to distribute porn apps but someone else can.

This is a horrible idea as it opens up Apple to problems with third party software and more malware….hopefully it won’t impact security to much

The Apple Pay thing is so stupid. Only allowing payments through Apple Pay pressured banks into implementing it and now if they start using their own tap to pay features users might see a huge fall in over all stability and usability of tap to pay. That’s why almost no bank supports google pay

I don't like sideloading and I am concerned that this could crush the iOS Security. And how can we be sure, that iOS will detect every malware from these Apps?
I won't use this feature and stay with the regular App Store.

Well, this is a completely logical business move. The US dictatorship is cutting off foreign markets, and this way it will be possible to bypass sanctions and continue to trade unofficially.

I think too much of free market principles to celebrate a government having this much control over what a company can do with its own products. It doesn't matter if I like the results or not, it's the principle of the thing. I felt the same way about the move to USB-C. I LOVE having USB-C on the iPhone, but it shouldn't be the role of a government to force Apple into such a decision. Just my $0.02.

When iOS 17.4 is released, the default App Store will be dead overnight because of how bad it is. Maybe Apple will make some much needed improvements, but I doubt it.

I wonder if there will be work arounds to get it work outside the EU. I mean I know there is ways to download apps that aren’t in your country so many that could work but I feel like Apple would try to make it harder. If anyone has ideas share them.

Sideloading an app is downloading an app via a browser, install it, and then use. That is all.

What Apple is doing isn't actually sideloading, it's selling a lie to their customers and they believe it. 🐑🐑🐑

Apple-simp-Boys&Girls do not even recognize when the best thing in over 10 years happans to the iPhone...

It is a potential feature that
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO USE .

There is zero infringement on security or convenience.

I don't get it fully, all my subscriptions are through apple. It's easier to cancel any subscription in the Apple environment and I like that. Will it be the same, will apple take care of us as usual. Let us know, update us when possible please.

Apple will still have a lot of control over these third party app stores where they’ve been ok’d by them. I’m guessing they’ll be distributed on the App Store itself, not installable another way.

This is truly awful. I live in the UK and wouldn’t allow side loading garbage on my devices, shudder. We left this mad environment years ago with all those shareware and freeware apps which side loaded viruses and other junk. This is the EU’s ego once again showing its bully side. We’re all still dealing with the littering of the internet with cookie banners and now this. Apples crazy App Store fees debacle got us here so it was bound to happen, but as a developer, you would feel a bit shamed for having an app in an ‘alternative’ store as you weren’t good enough to be in the main one where everyone else is. Awkward 😬. Not fussed about default browsers, meh really.

One big question about browsers on iOS - will they be able to have their own rendering engines? That’s been a big limitation of iOS browsers, they all use the iOS-supplied WebKit rendering engine. So Firefox for iOS isn’t really using the Firefox Gecko rendering engine. Will this update allow the Firefox for iOS to use Gecko?

This is disgusting!! I love apple all because of their eco-system and privacy! It’s sad to see how county are enforcing Apple to cut down its showstopper features. Apple is charging for something niche that they have developed & countries forcing them to give up on this niche is a terrible thing.

all of this seems to counterfeit the reason I use an iPhone. More secure, more privacy, and a gate keeper preventing a lot of the dismal junk google allows. (not that Apple Store apps don't track the hell out of you and have confusing price paradigms.)
