Tell me why people would vote for a policy designed to drive down their pay by bringing in people from outside the country who will work cheaper.

The solutions are hitting around the bush and not talking about the core issue. The 7% country quota for green cards. Increasing h1 quota will result in more people from India and China but create a bottleneck for green cards for them. Indias backlog is from around 2012 and chinas a little less. That’s the core issue of h1 folks already in usa living in uncertainty of green card receipt? That’s the core issue

Who pays for this propaganda? Who benefits from immigration? Will more people make land for homes more affordable? Will more people increase wages? "The three decades . . . from the mid forties to the mid seventies, were the golden age of manual labor." Why were times so good for blue collar workers? To some extent they were helped by the state of the world economy. They were also helped by a scarcity of labor created by the severe immigration restrictions imposed by the [ Johnson–Reed ] Immigration Act of 1924." Paul Krugman, Conscience of a Liberal, Chapter 3 (pages 48-49)

The US is now overpopulated, and as a consequence quality of life for the working class has declined. University is no longer affordable, and much less accessible. It was affordable and accessible, from 1870 to 1970. Tuition at UC Berkeley was zero from 1868 to 1968. Rent for students could be covered by a part time job. Rent is no longer affordable. Rent was affordable 1890 to 1970. Homes are no longer affordable. They were from 1890 to 1970. One salary will no longer support a family. It did, from 1900 to 1970. Engineering used to be a good career path. Now, employers hire H1b visa's at cheaper wages. Child care is unaffordable for pretty much everyone but the rich, and especially unaffordable for the poor. Immigration driven overpopulation to provide cheap labor and enrich corporations led to unaffordable homes and unaffordable university - see Vigdor for effect of immigration on housing costs. Turchin and Spengler will help you understand the cause and effect of other challenges that, so unlike the nineteen fifties, Americans face today

Tight housing, immigration are shifting pressure onto Seattle’s black neighborhoods, Stanford sociologist finds

"Looking forward, immigrants and their descendants are projected to account for 88% of U.S. population growth through 2065, assuming current immigration trends continue. " Pew Research

net immigration will add 75 million to the population, accounting for 95 percent of the increase by 2060.

Repeat after me: H1B is a non-immigrant visa. 85K H1B visas/year and 140K employment green cards/year, capped 7% by country. Increasing H1B does nothing for long term immigration, unless there are more greencards. Stop confusing short term indentured labor (H1B) with long term immigration (green card)

If you get invited to come here, you are automatically brighter than average? 🤣🤣🤣 That's the most Ludacris argument ever made .the reality is a lot of these candidates are very low quality folks, many of whom can't even speak proper English, many of them (not all) who have squeezed in through fake credentials and a majority of them invited to replace Americans who would otherwise demand lot more payment for quality talent. high quality talent is right here, not overseas, just motivate and orient them in the right direction, there is excess capacity untapped.

I hate to break it to you but for Canada what drives people is predictability and clarity within the system itself. As well as the fact it's based on skills and work experience rather than how long one has been in the country. You know what to do to collect enough points to be invited to apply for permanent residency, you know if you already have enough or not. Not to mention Canada issuing indentations to PR even to those who's never been to the country, so long they have enough international experience and eduction they could confirm. While illegal immigration is just not there. You just can't survive here without having a Social Insurance Number. Which is impossible to obtain stout a valid visa or proof of immigration status. No one will hire you, no bank accounts, not access to healthcare or eduction. Not to mention I can apply for my temporary visa or permanent residence completely online, with no need for an immigration lawyer.

So yeah...brining more talent to the US will take much more than just boosting the H1B cap.

H1B will not encourage immigration since its just a temporary visa for 3 years. increasing the number of H1B visas without increasing permanent residency documents (green cards), will not bring any major changes in immigration rates.

The problem is not just Canada but Australia New Zealand Germany France Argentina also fighting to attract such talent and they are literally snatching it away since last three or four years from USA. I came in this country 10 years ago and a still not a green card holder and I know a lot of people who has been waiting for 15years and still did not get it. When I came 10 years ago from India, USA was a craze among all people because other countries were not aware of the skilled worker programs I have not consolidated it into a law but now when I talk to a lot of my friends and students back there in India none of them want to come to USA. And why would they? When Canada and New Zealand Australia are offering Green card within 2 years of arrival and citizenship within 5 years. I have excluded Denmark Nederland Croatia and Romania from the list because they are not the one who are making a lot of news but believe me every other immigrant country has their immigrant law updated with the current time and situations except USA which is 50 years behind in updating its archic and stupid law that were set up in 1988 when the situation were completely different. When you do not bring the brightest talent from the word in the country then you will end up with being people like Mike Powell who just get the economy into vein. I have personally experience the laziness among the USCIS department workers who do not want to approve the application at the faster rate for green card and I have jokingly said it in front of one of the officer who came to my home for H1B inspection I told him if Indians would run and approve the USCIS Green card backlog then it will be finished in 2 years

There is no need to increase H1B CAP .as ppl in H1B are stuck in GC backlog over decades .whatever your anchor read is copy of immigration lawyers and tech companies lobbying needs to import more temporary workers and keep them indentured and to add more you guys dont talk about GC backlog in employment gc.
