Basically setting up a best audio setup is tricky as well as costly affair.
Just like when u make ur own house u love to use the best material like for concrete u use Ultratech, for tiles you use Kajaria, for Wiring use Havells, paint by Asian, Bath fittings by Jaquar or Kohler, lighting by Philips air conditioning by Mitsubishi or O General....
Why ?
Coz you chose the best in their class... like you will obviously not like to use bath fitting by Kajaria or lighting by Jaquar (although they have the same)

You buy the best of Amps, best of Sub best of satellites etc... thats why good 5.1 amp has provision for all

It is always recommended to go with separates by saying seperates i mean, buy an amp that can deliver good power in each channel, (say like Yamaha, Denon, Onkyo), then while selecting speakers you can go with either Floorstanders or Bookshelf (Wharfdale, KEF, Yamaha, Polk B&W are pioneers in this) then comes Sub again u have host of choices from Polk, Klipsch and Sonos.

The difference between passive and active subwoofers is that passive subwoofer depends on an external amplifier, while an active subwoofer contains a built-in amplifier. So some audio enthusiast are keen on putting up some extra bass to the 5.1 which is not enough on their existing 5.1 amp so they go with the pre amp out so that they can buy their favourite sub and enjoy better. Sometimes it is also a case that the built in circuitry of the 5.1 amp cannot deliver enough as the power supply is being shared among 6 channels so they freeout the built in .1 channel (in a 5.1 the .1 is the Low Freq Channel) so that other channels can get a better rounded power to drive.
But the point is you will get a pre-amp out only in AVR not in the 5.1 channel speaker setup with built in amps that are available these days.

@hardik sharma  Woofers or LFE has shorter throw, whereas speakers have a larger throw, hence a speaker producing the same amplitude will be heared over longer distance as compared to LFE...
This is the answer for what you asked but let me again enlighten you, that the term DJ is rather relative. Coz indoor DJing is different from Outdoor DJ'ing... in indoor DJ ing they use seperates, i.e. LFE, Mid Range and HFE whereas outdoors require power hungry amps and use a much larger bandwidth drivers to enhance the throw.
You must have noticed one thing whenever u are in a pub and start walking out of that place the loudness of the music keeps diminishing. This curve is non linear, whereas in open this diminishing curve is linear.
Understanding music is an amazing skill and to be very frank there is much more engineering into this than what I've written. Coz its not possible to state everything in a chat.
I handle the largest Auditorium of my town, it uses JBL Linear Array equipped with Crown Amps and i use a Yamaha 64 chanel Mixer. I can send you the pics of my setup.
At home i use a Sony AV Receiver with Bose Speakers in my Living Room and Yamaha AVR with Yamaha Seperates, i had a Sonodyne Genie earlier but i dont use it now but they were amazing. Nice chatting to you Hardik...
