I lived in Rio de Janeiro for many years and it is indeed customary to not give change. I questioned it for awhile but you can't argue with culture.

I experienced this at a petrol/gas station a couple of months ago. It wasn’t Candid Camera, just a thieving cashier.

Sadly, I could barely laugh. I automatically dismissed it because I just walked through a “Self Checkout” aisle that had a huge sign that read “No Cash. Cards Only.” 😉

These days you would’ve gotten a punch in the face! What a good sports!

Many stores don't take cash now. No debit or credit card = no candy for you. :/

I remember this when it first aired and loved the comment, "I don't let anybody rent space in my head." That may be the best life coaching advice out of the history of Candid Camera.
