🤔 What do you think of the results?

Give the boardman a pair of 38mm tyres, £300 alloy wheelset and that will be a much better "road riding" bike.
ОтветитьGood job Phil! I'd be very interested in a video regarding the opgrading of the Boardman
ОтветитьLet’s see more Phil riding and commentaries 🤠
ОтветитьInteresting that Phil was faster on the TT-bbike without riding in the position. But as someone else said, the helmet and jersey makes a difference. And off course the disc-wheel
But intrigued to see how you can make the entrey-level faster than the Orbea, without tri-bars
Kudos Phil and GCN. Great idea to upgrade the Boardman (maybe even just the tyres/tubes) and rerun the test. Also, how about another test, same setup but this time with an experienced cyclist (Olli?). This would probably more accurately answer the "how much speed can you buy" question.
ОтветитьCheap speed? Bring it on!
ОтветитьI have contacted Triumph Motorcycles, asking them to invite Alex & Ollie to a factory tour. When you have completed that, you could then inspect the machining and complexities of a di2 Dura Ace group set. You will then conclude cyclists are being charged rip off prices.😮
ОтветитьLike to see the Boardman upgrade
ОтветитьWack a set of second hand deep section carbon wheels on the Boardman for 250-300, wax a chain and use the same kit and I'm sure it will be quite close.
Buy a skinsuit and wear an aero lid versus normal gear on the Orbea and it may even be faster.. 🤔
do the upgrade and see how much different can it make.
ОтветитьNice one, Phil. You've convinced me that I'll be better off spending my $15,000 on beer instead of a new bike. 😀
ОтветитьNow pls do the same test with some comfortable riding in a TT position, eg Ollie
ОтветитьCan we have Ollie doing the same ride for reference?
ОтветитьMore Phil! What a legend! I think Alex might have a Dura Ace Chainset lying around you can have for the Boardman! 😅
ОтветитьBetter position and tyres and they will be almost equal.
ОтветитьHow much speed came from the bike and how much from the clothing change between boardman and orca?
ОтветитьThat was great !! (And, yeah, I did think that riding a TT bike does take getting used to)
ОтветитьYes please upgrade the boardman
ОтветитьI think you need to come to the states and let one of us common yanks give it a go on these beautiful bikes.
ОтветитьMore Phil plz 😂❤
ОтветитьBest video y'all have made in a while.
ОтветитьProlly have a $100 Dura-Ace crank set laying around for the Boardman I bet.
ОтветитьMore of this guy, he’s funny!
ОтветитьI was fun to see an average guy get to ride the bikes that some some of dream of getting to ride some day!!
ОтветитьYup. I’ve got one of those boardmans. Love to see it upgraded.
ОтветитьPhil
ОтветитьThis was awesome! More Phil on the channel please!!!
ОтветитьI just felt disaster when changing from aero bars back to handle bars. LOL. Yes money does buy speed but still comes with a training price. Way to go Phil. Good job. Cheers
Ответитьyou can’t out train a bad diet. also, try a real sport like hockey. 🇨🇦
ОтветитьIf you’re not confident on a bike, like the TT bike, you’re not going to go faster. Ride the bike you have fun on
ОтветитьMore videos and content for the average rider.
Ответитьfunny!!
Ответить"How do you brake" lol
ОтветитьCarbon rim brake wheels on the Boardman. Not sure you can put 11 speed DI2 something on it but do it.
ОтветитьThey should've dressed Phil better. Arms out and legs covered? Ollie, mate
ОтветитьOnya Phil!
ОтветитьImagine by john Lennon
What if I have money I'll buy titanium frame and slap it with 105 or durace and I'll be fine
I still believe carbon won't last, it's hard to find smart mechanics
Seems like a nice set of late 80s, wider, tri-bars would be more accessible and stable feeling for him, and still be faster than a standard road position.
ОтветитьHow about a 6kg rim boardman with sram red 10spd and some tubulars.
ОтветитьPlease upgrade the Boardman! That's the video I'd love to see! And don't do it like Alex who "conveniently" had upgraded driveline parts laying around
ОтветитьHmm, he WAS wearing a crumbled jacket on the first run.
And the TT bike should have the skies set up much wider for a beginner. If you're nervous you don't go full speed.
Ollie, very interesting. When you do upgrade the Boardman, can you keep a cap on how much you spend. The trolls will be at you if you spend loads. Look forward to next episode with Phil.
ОтветитьWith the way road bike prices are the best thing anyone with cost in mind could do, is to buy a good quality entry level bike, bike fitted with changes to stem, bar and cranks as appropriate. Also gearing and saddle and of course good tyres and latex tubes. Most people aren't going to realise or feel the benefits of aero frames and full internal cables. But a bike that fits properly with all the contact point components dialled in will feel amazing. I've not mentioned a wheel upgrade as I feel the cost benefits outweigh the gains with respect to the spirit of my advice. I would also recommend SL SPD pedals and good quality shoes. Northwave, Lake, Giro. Expensive but again you'll get a lot more benefit from that system than carbon cockpits, wheel upgrades or daft ceramic bearings. Another upgrade to think on is switching from 160 to 140 rotors if disc brakes or upgrading the pads on a rim brake bike. All of this can be done before going near 2000-6000 grand bikes or 1500 grand wheel sets. And of course training properly and frequently 😊. That Boardman bike looks the nicest bike there!
ОтветитьHow did Phil average 200 Watts when his legs weren't moving? It is obvious that the TT bike is something that one needs to train on and get used to or the gains are lost. Not just anyone could drive an F1 car (most would stall the engine straight away), but many more would be able to drive a Ferrari LaFerrari much faster than Phil's 2,500 pound car. For someone who is committed to it, each of the choices have their merits. There are Boardmans out there collecting dust, yet common wisdom would tell us that commitment increases with financial outlay.
ОтветитьBravo Phil!!! 👍👍
Giving an untrained time trialist a tt bike is so unfair and kind of dangerous.
Hahaha, love it. I learned something and Phil is great.
ОтветитьWell, apart from adding the aero bars to the Boardman, there's substantial easy gains to be had just from the kit change, the tyres and to a lesser extent a mid deep section wheel set. Be interesting to see if just those latter three would take you near the Orbea.
Ответить10% faster for 20 times the price. I wonder how good the boardman would be with a decent set of wheels and tires.
