Ah, this explains why my engine swapped Insight is so easy to corner hard underpower to the right but have to really lean into it on left handers. I'm excited to get my New FL5 Type R delivered to check this out.

Will it still have torque steer if from a stand still/Low speed, you accelerate, but one wheel is on High grip surface and one on Low grip? Like If the Right wheel is on the road, Left wheel on Grass, steering would turn to the Left?

Does this mean that wheel spacers can exacerbate torque steer?

They could have solved this problem by using longitudinal engine front wheel drive, with equal length driveshafts, no need for limited slip differential or suspension geometry.

@elenakana5931 - 21.01.2023 12:36

it has no torgue steer because it has a limited slip differential. dual axis mcstrut does not offer anything better than a conventional strut. that is why ford ditched it and gm also.

Calling front wheel as driven wheel, is it right terminology? Shouldn’t it be driving wheel and rear in that case would be driven wheels? I am trying to get the context.

Very interesting, and comprehensive. I have a fairly high powered classic Mini with considerable torque steer, i.e. pulls right on hard acceleration, pulls left on sudden deceleration. According to David Vizard's Mini book, one reason not mentioned by anyone else, is that the crown wheel & pinion are helical gears. Thus you get side loading on the bearings to one side on acceleration, and to the other side on deceleration - the friction in the bearings being unequal. Having replaced all bushes, bearings, CV joints, mountings, 4 pin diff, tie rod bushes (firm), moving parts, everything, it still had some torque steer, less than before, but noticeable. IN THE END, I increased the torque on all the side plate flange bolts - carefully, cos the bolts go into aluminium - increasing the pre-load, and that has almost completely eliminated the torque steer, unnoticeable in normal driving. Hope this helps, and thanks for the vid.

I thought torque steer was and Awd or Fwd system where torque is biased to the outer wheel in corners

Never owned a fwd but thats not really torque steer its caster causing that you have enough caster to counter act the kpi centering at that speed it going to the outside because the car want to continue turning the ideal line is usually to follow that space for whatever speed because you car isn't experiencing any understeer. So you are being pushed around the corner rather than pulled so if you loose traction momentarily you won't change directly. It's usually how you drift and the reason it so much easier with more caster you can feel it more easily with less traction.

I can see a ton of effort and work on this video but it didn't help me understand everything. Obviously I understood the major concept of the axis being closer to the wheel. And the side by side images helped but it was too quick and the lines drawn were not explained enough. It's hard for me to explain what I didn't understand. Maybe it's my lack of effort to understand or a combination. But I think more time could of been spent explaining what part of the tire is in contact with the road, when and with what torque, and much more, because I'm just not visualizing what you're trying to explain. I'm not seeing the forces or I wasn't shown the forces. And the lines on each side at the same time didn't explain each line it just showed the difference. Anyways, just wanted to let you know my thoughts and hope they help.

I have only owned rear wheel drive cars, but i recently had a hire car, with little power, but deadly torque steer. Not this car. Try launching this car hard with the steering wheel turned hard. I pulled out into fast moving traffic from a side street, and had to fight the car to stay in the chosen lane. When the car is going straight, it is not as impressive as at the boundary conditions. As I said, I have never owned/driven a front wheel drive before, and I only noticed it in the above circumstance. It had no power/torque to influence the steering of the car when going straight.

I see that torq steer while ur turning and gassing as a good thing.. it may have something to do with the caster.. .. but on the RsX chassi.. when u floor it on a turn the wheel will never come back to str8 on its own... so you need to actually fight it back to str8 on your own so u dont crash... kinda like a fR car or s20000 .. u let go of the wheel after turning and it will str8’n it self ... on thr rsx u gotta figbt it to get it str8 .. if the new ctr turns str8 on its own while turning and flooring .. i c it as honda fixed the problem from the rsx and what ever chassis after 00-01 that had that problem.. if you driven the cars im talking about on tight roads.. you should have felt it.. if u drive hard enough.. my 2 cents
