I really want to love this game. It has everything i want out of an RPG besides the combat. I have never played a game with this kind of combat, and even videos like yours still make combat seem too overwhelming. I really wish Explorer mode was like story mode in other games. I hope I can overcome this issue, but I'm just not sure. This game makes me feel stupid.

As someone who’s never played this type of game before, I was complete lost when first starting it. After watching this video I can confidently say that I am still lost. I do, however, understand it a little better, so I’m about to start the game over and give it a whirl! Appreciate the video!

I’ve been trying to find just the literal formula for calculating all the bonuses and modifiers, and everywhere online I’m just finding “it’s just dice plus your modifier duh” but couldn’t find anyone that mentioned the ability mod is every 2 levels above 10 on your modifier stat equals +1

I have put 6 hours into this game on ps5. I love it so much. I have been playing D&D alot back when 3rd and 3.5 edition was out. I did buy the core rule books for 4th edition but I couldn't find a group and I never played 5th edition

As someone who has never played d&d tabletop or turn based games in general is it still feasible to play ? I really play for storyline more than anything. And this one looks beyond amazing.

What does high defense mean? Even when i have the high ground the enemy says high defense. thanks for the video but its just impossible to memorize all this when it cant be found in game anywhere. I haven't found a use for bonus actions at all as they don't seem to have a purpose aside from a potion. Most of the regualr actions seem like they should be bonus actions so you can attack and also do something useful, I just skip the bonus actions and movement, its boring as DOS2 sigh..

one tip i would suggest for spell casters or other range is to use your movement. For example, cast a spell or fire an arrow then move out of line of sight. The enemy will have to move to get to you. and that triggers an attack of opportunity from your melee.

Im 44 and i have never played D&D style game before. I bought this on steam 5 days ago and i'm totally in love with it...however! The mechanics are very intimidating. I feel like i am learning a new language from scratch, which i guess technically i am. I wish the tutorials were more in-depth to be honest. But as i said i love the game and i refuse to quit. I will do my best to learn everything. If i can SL1 all souls games i can do this lol. Btw, great video i learned a heck of a lot. I subbed btw, thank you.

Im having a fucking great time with this game. I hope larian at slme point brings us to level 20. I want my wizard to basically be a god and i want to fight other gods. This game has so much dlc potential its crazy and i hope larian follows up on thenhype because they can double their money on this thing with less than half the game.

Am I missing something? Was Baldur’s Gate always a D&D thing or is it just the third game?

THIS. this is the most comprehensive and perfect combat guide for all people new to BG or D&D 5e edition. Thank you this guide has been really helpful in bridging my understanding at areas such as Abilities, Skills, Proficiencies in particular, which has been quite a headscratcher as i navigate through the first 20+ hours of the game while still trying to enjoy and explore the game on my own unassisted.

Combat basics is a 30min video? Might actually not be the game for me. Loved Divinity 2, it was super simple and the combat didnt erk me up the walls.

This is a real good thorough explanation, but with that said the gameplay for this game looks boring as hell to me so I'm passing, and I'm one of those who stopped playing FF games when they stopped being turn based, but I'm glad so many people are enjoying the game.

Still have my copy of the Chainmail rules, scary to think I've been playing D&D for over 40 years now. Trying to wrap my head around 5th Ed has been a pain, maybe I'm a Fudd, but I will always prefer "The Old Ways", so videos like yours are great.

Can someone tell me why some abilities are labeled as an action and a bonus action? I'm not at home at the moment do I can't test it but if I recall correctly it used an action when I used it and I did not get to choose which one it used do I don't get the point of it.

I think a video like this might tip the scale towards picking the game up. I stopped playing D&D at 3.5, and shifted to Pathfinder. So while I have a vague understanding of things like advantage or stat saves, there's some stuff I don't know. And I wondered if not knowing the system would be more trouble than it's worth.

I've been playing since 1st edition D&D, even played some Chainmail once though my only experience with 5e is via Critical Role. That said (your favorite saying. :P ) this explanation of combat in BG3 was extremely informative and helpful. Thank you!

they had money to make it but its also true that if you made other aaa rpg games using this perspective thats in between top down and third person, and using a hyper rules based system albeit it intricate (and with the infrastructure to implement it already having been started on) they could make similarly polished games. this system doesnt need as strong a game engine as most other aaa rpgs because movement and combat are way more controlled here.
but that certainly doesnt mean that bg3 isnt a massive launch for an impressive game.

This guide for sure is pretty good but man it rather makes me refund the game than to actually try to understand it. Divinity was much easier and i know these are different games and rules but trying out Baldurs Gate and not knowing what my ten thousand stats and all do and how important they might be with seemingly almost no explanation ingame irritated me alot. This guide with all infos about what effects this and that and dices here and there and bla just doubles down on my irritation.
Not saying this guide is bad, it is for sure very well done and a good ressource, i just felt less inclined trying to get into the game because i wanna have fun early and not watch and understand 10000 guides and micro mechanics.
Just the same reason why even as a Diablo 1 veteran boomer, i never really got into poe bec i just couldnt force myself to read spreadsheets and guides and trial and error for many hours and possibly many characters before i finally know what to do and have fun.
