zzzz... This documentary could have used the services of an editor. Very heavy on French history, the treasures inside, not so much. A change in the title might be appropriate. I did however watch the whole thing.

Congratulations to the BBC and Andrew Hussey for this wonderful documentary.
You did an outstanding job.
There is so much to appreciate about the narration and production of the video, which is equal to the task of telling such a grand story eloquently while presenting various pieces of art that stir my heart.
I have been to the Louvre 25 or 30 times, wearing myself out each time in all-day tours.
I seem to always be drawn to begin with the ancient Egyptian stuff and then expanding to other sections, always trying to see those which I had not given as much attention to previously.

I really enjoyed this video , for me I think this is the only way to visit the Louvre when it is completely empty of tourists . My daughter took me for a long weekend to Paris about six years ago , it was packed with people to the point of being pushed by a group of Korean visitors and my daughter had to firmly tell them to stop . I won’t go into details about the filth in the streets , the begging , the warnings everywhere about pickpockets , everything was so different to when I last visited 25 years ago , we never will go back to Paris . Bonjour à tous de la Charente Maritime .

Not at all half a mile long. The Grande Gallerie is about 1500 feet in length. This guy engages in hyperbole continuously in this video as comments below show. He speaks French but is inane. He aims for a WOW reaction. This is totally unnecessary with the Louvre. Because he's BBC they basically let his team film alone

The documentary is well done but some information are not correct. 1/ Henry II was not the successor of François II, but François 1er, 2/ Michelangelo's slaves are not taken from the vatican by Napoleon but were offered to François 1er as gifts in the 16th century.

Truth in plain sight! Leonardo DaVinci Paintings❤️
🦁If you calculate this year 2022 minus the year the 1st Mona Lisa died 1542=480 years, the same amount of time from Exodus to the rebuild of the new temple in the bible. She has started the rebuild. The 2nd Mona Lisa is the Bride of Christ, Queen of Heaven, Lucifer& Lilith. She was the first female & human, her 1st husband Adam wanted her to submit but she wanted equality and she left. He was the start of the women being suppressed, evil emotions and actions. He was the evil but made his wife out to be a villain. God has given Christ (2nd Adam) to their daughter. The Mona Lisa 2nd -
🦁the initials in her eye is her name initials
🦁the V & 5 sceneries are the 5 places the 2nd Lisa has lived in after marriage. 🦁The 12 pins firstly in a shape of a cup represents her surname
🦁secondly around her head in X-ray represents 12 stars just like in Revelation the woman with 12 stars and the dragon signifying her holiness.
🦁The right hand over the left signifies she is the right hand of God.
🦁The number under the bridge 75 is the year son of God was born in human form.
🦁His other paintings link the Mona Lisa to them as well, the crab sketch represents her star sign Cancer.
🦁The ferret and lady represents what the 2nd Mona Lisa was called as a child.
🦁Portrait of a woman represents her eldest daughter. Her youngest daughter is painted as saint Anne
🦁The last supper shows the Mona Lisa incarnation of Mary Magdalene and the chalice cup is her surname.
🦁The twist in her fabric on her shoulder represents Gods humour & twist to the biblical story, savior is female this time.

Those Rubens painting are large boring propaganda. The anonymous Medieval paintings are often the best ones. And then Gericault and Delacroiz are so much better than those bloated Rubens most likely painted largely by assistants. The Louvre really has too much third rate art.
David was a real weasel making bullshit for the Dictator Napoleon. Nappy left France broken with a generation of men dead and lost campaigns in Egypt then Haiti and Spain until finally the worst debacle in Russia....yeah such a great General! He sold off a quarter of the North American land for pennies. Then he was given his own island and a budget for staff after he capitulated the first time...but the idiot went right on until they put him onto the islad he deserved. He lost his son and wife and any "honor" he espoused.
Too bad the Louvre has such a blind spot of ANY Modern art when France was such great birthing place of many Modern artists. Would Monet and Modigliani be so out of place? They could also take some of the Picassos from the Picasso Museum that they loke to hide away and show only a tiny part of the collection they sit on.
