Silhouette Studio Tutorial for Beginners | Step-by-Step Guide and Tips

I downloaded the software. I don't get the grid pattern mat, though. I just get what looks like to be a blank piece of paper. How do I get that grid mat with the ruler around the outer edge of the workspace?

It would be better if you went through the cut.

I have been using Cricut machine for about a year now and i decided i wanna buy a cameo. This alot different then design space. I didnt really use design space much but from what little time i did use its so different Im excited to learn silhouette I know its gonna be my goto I can alreay tell just form the design panels. Thank you for making these tutorials .Im off to watch the rest.

I was trying to decide if I even needed to get another machine for what I currently do now as a small craft business (very small since I am still designing). I have a cricut Joy and was happy with it, except for now. I hate design space, especially because most of the things you need to do to produce anything is required to do online. Yes, you can use other programs and just do work arounds, but you still need to be online for the machine to function basically.
I felt like I was a hostage to DS constant updates, clogging my computer up with files and depending on THEIR servers to make things work aside the fact DS is SLOW and glitchy.
Nothing against the Joy machine itself, or other cricut series machines, please don't get me wrong, I actually enjoy working with it still, when I can get the DS to do what it is suppose to so I am not bashing the Cricut Joy machine and I know many that love it. It is the way the company itself makes it difficult to use unless you keep paying out for features and taking away others that were free at one time.
I have been looking at the cameo 4. Since watching your videos, I decided to take the plunge and get one. I work with GIMP as a work around to do print and cut in Joy, art and stickers, but it takes a lot of extra steps and time.
Silhouette Studio just takes a little time to get use to and so far has been fun trying out the tools.
The fact that I will no longer be beholding to cricut product and worrying when they update again to stop the work arounds is a relief.

Hi Becky. I'm a new Cameo 4 user. I'm trying to cut vinyl without a matt. Using the auto cut settings, it cuts too deep. This is Oracal 651 and a brand new blade. Should I turn the force setting down? Is 10 a good setting with a matt or do you find you have to set it down a bit?

My question is when I design something in Silhouette Studio Does the design I created belong to me or does Silhouette Studio own it? Cricut Design Space owns what you create to my understanding I could be wrong but was told whatever I design they own it.

Thank you! Just got business edition for $50 at Swing Design -as an upgrade from the FREE version. Don't know if that was special or not, but it did say upgrade from free version and it works perfectly! This helped a TON!

THANK YOU! I have researched this venue for months. I've had a sign company for 40 years and I run coreldraw and a cut program for a sign plotter. I decided to downscale to this, but could never find anything that indicated that it would interface with Coreldraw. Not only does it interface, but there's an actual upgrade for it. They should advertise that more. Thank you so much!!!

Great video, I have a question for you, for the sizing part I have some words that needs to be 9.5 wide and 6.235 tall but it keeps readjusting the opposite how do you lock it to the measurements you want?

I’ve purchased avg files can I use them in the basic version

I have used cricut for years and am used to the ability to open a png file and cut it. That doesn't seem to be an option with silhouette. I think I am going to need to retrain my brain to be able to use basic functions

Thank you for this great starter video. In it you mention tracing and defer to another video. Which video do you go more into tracing? I want to use this for stained glass design and tracing an imported photo is exactly what I need.

Hi love watching your videos you explained things so good thank you but I have the silhoutte and I upgraded to designer edition but their are times that I turn ony laptop n go to silhoutte and on top it be on basic edition a lotta times why ? It should always be on designer edition at the time I didnt know what we were doing upgrading to designer their were these keys I'm not sure if I purchased a key lol don't know 4.4 designer edition untitled 1 that's what it says on top I want to upgrade to business edition but how much more do I have to pay to upgrade? If I already have designer edition? Thank you
