Carson, Was out in fairly heavy snow last week covering a snowmobile radar run. 1st time in that much snow. all going fairly good till flying at 20 ft altitude on controller but actually ran into spectators at about 5 feet. luckily I knew the guy and he had a helmet on. Bad mistake on my part. will the snow fool my altitude like that? Don't want this to happen again.

I wish it would go as high as 5,000 meters or 16,400 feet. I know it was just a mistake and I had to poke fun of you. As you know, it's 500 meters or 1,640 feet. My Autel X Star Premium would only go 800 meters or 2,640 feet AGL and that's 1/2 mile up. Truth be told, there aren't many places where one can fly at those altitudes AGL legally, that is unless you're flying it within 400 feet of a structure or natural land mass such as a mountain. That being said, you'd have to be flying within 400 feet of either a building or land mass with height of 2,240' for the X Star Premium, or 1,240' for the Mavic Air 2 to legally be able to fly at at their respective maximum altitudes.

Is there any way to turn off the default charging with the controller while using an Android phone. Here in the south during the warmer seasons, this causes the phone to over heat and the screen to dim, making it hard to see the screen.

flying in snowfall is no problem at all with cold. If its cold, snow doesnt melt on your drone. iv done it many many times already, no problems.

My WiFi at home has a limited distance I can go til I lose signal. How does wifi work with drones. You can go way over a mile and not lose signal. How does gps work in drones. Does all drones have gps ???

Don’t fly when it’s snowing. Then flies when it’s snowing.

Being a military aviator, one of the first things that you learn is NOT to fly in visible moisture at temperatures below 4ºC/39º F. Our drones are no different. Icing on the props will definitely impact performance, and icing on the rest of the aircraft - to include the sensor - will add weight, drag and may cause damage. Great video, Carson! BUT... you told us that flying in falling snow is a no-no... but then your footage of Indy shows that you were flying in snow! :)

Hot hands can get as hot as 135° which exceeds the temperature usage range for lipos. I would keep those away from the batteries.

To take off from the snow (or mud, or grass), I use a wide plastic bag to place all my accessories, and after assembling and feeding everything, launch my Air 2 from hand, holding above my head, using the auto-take-off feature (because only one hand is available).
Bonus tip: Don't hold your drone with props spinning against your face. Take care! :)
I flew at the temperatures down to -10 C (how is it in F?) and got excellent movies.
Please advice me, is it only my drone, where the radar feature disappeared?

Carson dude, you're
a day late with this video 😂

I flew my Air 2 yesterday and it kinda just fell out of the sky. Now my question is. It was in freezing temps, but I had it hovering for a hyperlapse. Does that have more of an effect on the drone as compared to when you're flying it around?

Tip #8 Get a cellphone that is pretty new so the battery lasts in cold weather. Mine died while I was testing my drone in - 15C even though it was charging with the controller. You can see the video on my channel ;)

If I don't warm up the drone and the batteries when it is 0C (32F) or lower outside, the mavic air 2 gets stuck during boot (internal cooling fan on full blast but nothing happens). Anyone else experience this?

Carson, great video. I’ve shot pro photography for a couple of decades and many of those tips are for your camera equipment in the cold also. It’s important to let the camera on the drone acclimate to the outside before flying! BTW, what remote mic setup are you using? It sounds great!
