Do you notice how they NEVER show the driver seat in the cybertaxi or whatever? As if somebody's driving it...

Imagine missing a payment and walking out to your car driving away singing..."Back to the dealer we go....if you dont pay we drive away!!! Back to the dealer we go....you said you paid but obviously no way"...

I respect that Top Gear has to be on good terms with everyone important, but the amount of glizzy on Elon's tool lol is just too much. I'm not even gonna touch the "no wheel" thing good luck with that, but I will say this - so every Uber driver will have his own flock, and that makes market sense how exactly? Or is it that Uber is just gonna fire everyone, food for thought, so much for regurgitating Elon's bullshit with a smile on their face, the old crew would be ashamed tbh.

Now I know why I stopped watching the weak copy of TG. This twerp seems to think he is the star of the video. It is the car. Get off the screen and show us the car or I will just look at another review. Worthless and a waste of half an hour. Glad I scudded through to the key parts.

This looks exactly what an amusement ride for adults would be, planned by an egomaniac billionaire with no sense of organising a party other than; DJ, flashing lights and inviting pundits. The rides (cars) don't seem anything more than pre-programmed to go around a pre-designated track (round-the-block), they contain two standard bucket seats, a small monitor and carriage. It's soulless.

It's reallly... not that exciting when you think about it. The challenge and interest in "self-autonomous" cars and robots is the complexities of how they would deal with real world scenarios. We've otherwise been able to build robots that perform precise, limited functions for decades now. This demonstration has revealed nothing but things we haven't already been capable of for decades. The "Optimus Primes" really didn't do much... if they had been navigating a dynamic ninja obstacle course like Boston Dynamics or holding an intelligible conversation that weren't pre-recorded or "web-searched" answers then...

But nope. Seriously bland.

Edit - Just an FYI I'm not suggesting the cars were on "rails" but the environment was very much controlled, literally by a shield of staff to ensure crowd control and stragglers didn't walk out in front of cars and that none of it was indicative of what "real world conditions" would be like. This demonstration wasn't a good example of how full-autonomous cars would work in public nor did the "Optimus Primes" demonstrate anything of substance.

Mr Musk is sadly mistaken if he thinks that anybody would want a robot buddy? I am really worried about him , he seems to have lost touch with reality. We will send some robots to Mars, and he must get people used to that I guess. How about producing a cheaper phone networks better instead of pushing us into 6g

I have a hard time believing that by 2026, self driving taxis with no way to intervene will be fully allowed, especially given at times the Tesla self driving will get confused or overwhelmed in conjuctions and mess up, requiring manual input, and this has been in development for a great many years now.

I suspect that transport & legislative infrastructures will have to be upgraded significantly before autonomous driving/cybercabs can operate safely. This is an emerging trend in AI - it can augment humans but replacing them is really hard. I suspect the same will apply to domestic robots. Don't expect anything sci-fi this decade. But that's a good thing - people need time to adjust to radically new technology, not least to grapple with the ethical implications of - eg - of cars driving into kids and the deliberate creation of robots destined to become slaves.

Your drive around was in an enclosed area with no distractions for the cab.
Quite probably preprogrammed. And the bus? No ground clearance? Stuff all windows? 2030 police wagon? And the dates? I would add a decade. By the way, Seoul has autonomous busses.

The "future arrived" over 2 years ago with Waymo which has actual working robotaxis that are more than 6,000 times more reliable than Tesla FSD. Tesla FSD does not work so it needed to go super-slow in a tiny geofenced, controlled, pre-mapped, pre-trained route. This "demo" was a complete shame.
You also didn't seem to realize that the robots were not autonomous in any way. They were being remotely controlled by humans and you were simply talking to a human through a camera and mic. The "robots" fully admitted this when asked.

So, it's a two seater. When me and the boys hit the bar we have to take like three of these things in order to get anywhere. Not to mention the revenue loss on the fact that you have a thing that takes as much care and space as a car but it has half the usable seats. Brilliant, as usual for Tesla, the business model has no holes. Because to have holes you have to have some structure around them.
