Tesla owner reviews the 2023 Tesla Model Y Performance (inc 0-100km/h, autonomy & track mode)

We had a look at a Model 3 & a standard Model Y yesterday. Initially, I thought the 3 would have been my choice, but because the seats in the Y sit up on a raised platform, getting in and out of the seat is so much easier, for an old guy. It was absolutely amazing! The 3 was hard to get in and out of.

The biggest dissapointment however, was no spare tyre. The salesman said there was 4 years of road service, but frankly, if you have a flat, that can't be repaired with a tube of goo, you could be stranded for a long time! He countered with "For $300 you can buy a spare wheel". Yeah, but where do you store it!
We declined the offer of a test drive, because we knew that the wow factor could have us buying it, against our better judgement.
Seriously, no spare wheel was the breaking point. We have family in rural NSW & Victoria and buying anything without a proper spare could be a recipe for disaster

my mate Telsa 3 nice has a lot options mags and nice rims and a nice wrap and dont come with a spare wheel if u get a tyre puncher u have to call telsla they come swap over take u wheel no idea how me mate does it I think they have to repair on the spot but most these $150k I can buy 3 nice cars this haha they get hot also the sunroof been told and inside control to boring looking what happens someone broke in smash the computer screen no car start yes start on a app most cars come with 360 camera now bugger apps and phone for a car to work

telsla y looks great compare the performance 3 there nice inside Paul but the price not worth it but this y model ok in price but electric cars are not building as many now more hybrid cars coming in for me I prefer anyway a petrol car because I can get fuel and keep driving compare electric need to charge it all the time but u pay tax $400 a year and soon be another tax like fuel I know me mate got one he swear by it but he doesnt like the taxes

Over hyped car.

I own an MYP. In sport mode it’s better than my previous X4M and Macan GTS. Makes them feel outdated. I would like more premium upgrade options for the interior though.

No. Test drove the 2023 Y LR vs the Y P and there was no comparison; the P just felt way better. Way more buttoned down, better steering and brake feel too. In the sweepers, just more body control. It just felt a lot different. Better. That made my choice very easy of whether the P was worth the extra $.

MYP really needs an adaptive suspension system. Im pretty sure this is the only 100k sport SUV without one.

MYP just makes it simply way more fun; and manageable as a family car with a lower suspension - performs better when thrown in corners compared to the Long Range Model Y.

Great video , have to say the model Y looks good on screen but very inflated and ugly in person .. you are the first person to reveal it’s an auto drive cruise system you can’t trust … wtf … 2024 needs car play and a speedo…a/c that beats the heat I can only wish for

Just one thing I don't understand... High center of gravity? What are you talking about? Considering all the battery weight at the very same height as in model 3, the few centimeters higher body simply cannot make such a difference. After all we are talking about electric car, not a gasoline car with V8... I'd bet it's the suspension / dampers difference what you are feeling...

Tesla doesn't have the Yellow blind spot warning lights because when you put the turn signal one, you have as very clear camera video of the side and the blind spot lights are not needed

The performance Y is better than the other 2. I’ve owned one for a year. You can turn the performance into a long range by just swapping the wheels to the 19s and get the same range (and a slightly faster 0-60).

its a good thing that the emergency release is hard to get for the back row. i definitely dont want people randomly releasing and damaging the car trim.

you are too kind. the ride still stinks. we can see it in your video as we watch you bounce around in the seat. also when you hit a bump, it sounds like the car is going to fall apart. I love the Y, but it rides as bad as my pickup truck. I keep test driving a couple times a year hoping it will get better, but so far very disappointed.

Do you know if the standard model Y 2023 get the comfort dampers? I've been delaying an order until this is confirmed.

If you're a car expert then say this "It's bumpy, it's rattly, when I want something I need to take 2 minutes on the screen, it's unreliable, bad build quality, cheap materials, a steering wheel that wobbles up and down when you move it, the top of the door wobbles, horrible brittle sound on the trim when you knock it, fabric on the bottom of the seats, not covered back cup holders in the armrest and covered with cheap plastic, when I put down the back armrest while in drive it makes a loud rattling sound, bad door closing sounds, cheap fabric speakers and part of dashboard which gets worn out quickly, the roof window gets orange in the sun, back seat shaking around while drive, back seat belts unsupported so they fall to the side any time you move, scratchy seat belt material, the backs of the front seats are covered with cheap scratchy plastic, old Teslas had a manual opening storage in the centre console, new Teslas centre console storage place is dangerous and can get your hand scratched and caught, back windows only go half way down, zero back window visibility, squeaky windows, loud cabin noise, barely any configuration choices. If you question me, I tell you that I test drove two Teslas for myself. Teslas should be £15,000 - £20,000 not £50,000, it just doesn't make sense. Beware, Tesla is a scam.


- Add on: Before I went for my test drive, it took me 5 minutes just to open it. I placed the card onto the door pillar where it was meant to be and it just didn't open, Tesla should just make a key for goodness sake and trying to be "unique"!! I don't want to take 5 minutes opening a car thank you very much.

So Tesla is fitting "comfort suspension " to Model Y? To brend new ones or to used as well?

Ugly exterior. Interior is pretty standard. No 360 degree camera 😂. Money for old rope.

We just took delivery of a Performance Model Y on May 10 here in Bangkok. Our Shanghai Made version has the latest AMD processor plus all the sensors and radar. We have front passenger electrical controls. We are now in the hottest time of the year in Bangkok with the most sun. We have no trouble with keeping cool in our car in the middle of the day as the coatings on the top glass are so good and the air conditioner will freeze you out. Every thing works great from delivery. Matter of fact we had zero delivery complaints about fit and finish. It’s boring to talk about but it was perfect. Tesla helped by arranging an installer to place a wall charger in their new operating area here in Bangkok.
At the time of deliver and now there are only three superchargers in all of Thailand. Hopefully they will add more soon to ease our normal travel around Thailand that we have been taking our Everest to go to Trat/Kon Chang, Cheng Mai and Sometimes Krabi and Phuket. Since we charge at home we guess we will have much use for superchargers in town.
Unlike so many reviewers we understand that “fiddling” with screen is not very necessary as it is a voice command car. This reviewer is hasn’t found the luxury of the voice command. Apparently he hasn’t even found that the Tesla has different Drive modes as he stated that there were none so the performance model S has chill mode, as well as normal performance, mode and track mode just as a note.
We have now realized that this new Tesla is going to cost us more money than we thought as it make owning and driving regular car seem so ridicules. We are going to sell the other cars and order another Tesla.

Model Y isn’t an SUV. It’s a Crossover based on the Model 3 platform.
The Model X would be an SUV. With the Model S being a large luxury sedan.

Hate the idea of a glass roof in Queensland. Far too hot and sunny here. Aircon use is bad enough without any sunroof without that carry-on. The glass roof at least needs a sliding shade like any normal vehicle.

Also I’d never buy any car (unless no options at all) with only a centre screen. The Model Y and 3 are therefore out of contention. And the whole dashboard is far too bland and boring.

How well do the maps and navigation work when you are out of mobile phone network coverage (ie most of Australia)?

A problem with not using radars and relying only on cameras is that cameras can get obscured by rain, dirt and sunstrike. It’s blatantly stupid to remove radars and ultrasonic sensors and just use cameras - cameras alone have too many inherent flaws - even 3D cameras.

Glovebox only opens using the touchscreen - dumb idea. Where are the ventilated seats at that price point?

The best lane keeping I’ve experienced is with the Land Rover Discovery 5.

I’m not a fan of the drive selector on the stalk or the cruise on a stalk. The right stalk should be for the wipers and cruise should be on the steering wheel.

So tiered of underminded ignorant people wine about tesla… buy a kia!! It will definitely be upto your standard giving you have no degree and can not fully understanding the engineering behind Tesla. So many people complain able Apple yet the brand isn’t for everyone. the only differents inbeetween Apple and Tesla is affordability same direction same business model.

So pretty much if your phone is flat, you cannot drive the car 😂

It is insane to me how many features are substandard or consumer non friendly. Removing parking sensors is a TERRIBLE tactic thay is only about their bottom line.

All your acceleration runs are way off because u r relying on a phone's gps to test the 0-100kmph time, and phone gps does lag a little. Please invest in a proper acceleration monitoring device like draggy or something similar.

You can change lanes with lane assist staying on. You indicate, then gently point to the next lane. The car will steer iteself into the next lane without the blue lines disappearing.

Dude there is a lot of I’m a lil frustrated and the ride is still firm for that amount of money. I would feel like a beta tester owning that car knowing for the money and less you can own a far better non electrical car.

Would you recommend buying this card for this price (75k)? if not what other car would you prefer to buy?

I like your honest review. Most other reviewers are Tesla Fanboys. People say Tesla is a sw company but to me they arent that good at it. Yes they are much much better tgan the competition. If Apple would to make a car it would kick Tesla's butt in every aspect. For some reason jo other serious condender from the valley. I xan see, it takes a lot more $$.

The Tesla doesn't have anything over the a Toyota Corolla other than it able to go faster. It's not very smart to pay so much more for this vehicle

Irony is, ALL EVs are not carbon neutral. ICE cars are ALL recyclable, EVs are NOT.
Think again when wanting to save the planet.🤔
