Favicons are the little images that display on the left side of browser tabs. I'm sure you're used to seeing these and excited to add your own.

As of version 4.3, you can now add favicons to WordPress without installing any new plugins. The option is available in the Site Identity section in the Live Customizer. WordPress calls it a "Site Icon" instead of a favicon.

When adding a favicon to your WordPress website, make sure you're uploading a transparent PNG image that is 512x512px. The image needs to be so big because it's also shown in bookmarks and mobile apps where it's sometimes displayed much larger.

If your favicon doesn't show up right away, try clearing your site's cache (if you're using a caching plugin), and then clear your browser's cache too. These updates will ensure that your favicon is displaying for you and your visitors correctly.
