boss: bob, bill said we need to implement a check on input serial numbers.
bob: why? it doesn't mean anything, since we require the installation to verify the serial key anyway when they come for updates.
boss: bob, I'm not the boss, bill said we need to have a check, get it done!
so bob got it done expending least amount of effort possible...

ha that last one worked, in win98 btw i always booted into safe mode after the first half of the installation, ran regedit, went to like system, software, microsoft, windows, then found the boot count value and set that to 1 or 2. and it just bypassed the question completely.

I've tried to make my own Windows 95 OEM Keygen, but apparently "0042958" doesn't pass the mod7 function, even tho it looks correct. Can someone explain this behavior?

Private wealth yes can do lot more in societies empty lying buildings units going waste why? because greed of building lobbies along with urban developers lobbies sold it to those who have no needs but build those for so called profits to high end wealth which is to say is only handful and thus entire futility of it while rest suffer, private wealth can buy those and starts algining with Government funds babaji's balls print mint factory is in in babaji's well hands:) or lobbies, who put puppet heads , those heads their balls are with lobbies who put them there, and private wealth has its balls in their hands and can juggle them in right way if they want to... amount of expenses spent by Government agencies in usleless paperwork going nowhere or in tail spin of catching their own balls is horrendous instead of interviewing that life in distress and prompt help after case through new tech trackable id's have been assed on site and thus cutting across rubbish of paperwork and expense...

In 2001 when I was 12 my uncle gave me my first PC which had Windows 3.1 and I desperately wanted to put Windows 95 or 98 on it but had no money to do it. One of my friends had a Windows 95 CD that came with their family desktop and I asked to borrow it being so excited thinking I could put it in mine and install Windows 95 just like that, until I tried it and it asked for a product key. They got a new computer and let me keep that disc which I had for like a year until one day I was at a thrift store with my mom and found a Windows 95 product manual there that had a product key on the front cover for like $3. I tried installing it using that product key and was SO stoked when I entered it and it went through and installed Windows 95. I spent that whole summer between 7th and 8th grade learning literally everything about that OS and I reinstalled it probably two or three dozen times.... so many times that I memorized that product key and could reinstall it without needing that manual. Still til this day I remember it being 25595-OEM-0004557-45580... I reinstalled that OS using that key so many times I still remember it 22 years later and probably won't ever forget it.

If the serial key is not easy to be cracked, how Window becomes popular nowadays?
just like Adobe, release the crack by itself to dominant the market :S

VB6 used to accept either all 1s, all 2s, or something similar (I forget). If it weren't for that, I may have never gotten into software development. Thanks, Microsoft!

In the 90s if was not uncommon to find no serial checking at all. You could type your name and it would be valid in many programs.

It's weird to have parts of the key unchecked. What's the point of the first three digits if they're unchecked? Sure, they're checked explicitly for 333,444,555,... but aside from that, all other numbers are valid.
