I wonder why you used a closet flange instead of a 4" PVC Cap? The closet flange costs more and you end up wasting part of it.

2 problems here.
1- NEVER us PVC. PVC is designed for water and not poop. it also has NO UV protection so will eventually shatter in the sun.
Use black ABS instead which is designed for poop and has UV strength.
2- That screw-on cap needs a wrench. lose or break the wrench and you are un s***-creek! Use RV bayonet caps!

Has anybody come up with a lighter alternative? I still like the idea of having the tube secured to the outside of my pack, but I'm thinking there are thinner materials that would work just as well.

If you put a screw on lid on both ends, it's MUCH easier to clean the tube later....
