I recently joined an organisation as a Tech Consulting Analyst (i'm a fresher who graduated last month). I interned here for a month initially as a web developer....but in the time, I realised that I could provide business solutions as well as technical solutions (basic to intermediate) to my colleagues and other members working on a project with me, so I asked my organisation to make my profile a tech consulting analyst. I'm glad that i chose this profile since it teaches me a lot about business working, technical knowledge, strategy, marketing, etc etc....this is really a great field for someone who doesn't know their career path at an initial phase and want to gain knowledge of various fields and then hop into a proper field...or maybe stay in consulting in the future as well...
ОтветитьIf you like coding and you are good at it, do SWE, not consulting (referring to management consulting, not necessarily tech consulting, which is a whole 'nother animal).
ОтветитьAs a consultant you should not be doing ANY programming that required for your job unless you live in India or something. Its good to know but you are not an architect, developer or a tester.
ОтветитьConsultant & Consultant Engineer/ Consulting Engineer are two different words legally. Consultant need not be Engineer. Engineer is a person who holds Bachelor's/ Master's degree in concerned engineering discipline from a recognised University. IT or S/W Consultant preferably should have degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering/ IT(Information Technology)/ S/W (Software) Engineering/ related subject/ Math/ Stat.
Whereas IT or S/W Engineer must have degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering/IT/ S/W Engineering & Consultant Engineer/Consulting Engineer (IT/
S/W) too same,License as PE/PEng/CEng prefered though not mandatory. Both Consultants & Consultant Engineer/ Consulting Engineer are not regular salaried employment in Co./Firm but self-employed persons who may have many Co./ Firms as their clients & they charge fees for service they render to those Co./Firms
So in short, software engineer earn more and work less.
ОтветитьLoved the video, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! I started working at a mid tier consulting firm within last year as a data engineering consultant (similar to software engineering), so this video really helped a lot with differentiating between these two fields and planning the rest of my career. Thanks so much again!!
Ответитьgreat video, just what I was looking for.
ОтветитьI really like that you said that in the consulting world folks jump in and out. I've gone from Industry -> Consulting -> Industry -> Consulting -> soon back to industry, and I think that spending time in both worlds build a lot of perspective and develops different career "muscles"
ОтветитьThe choice is employee vs contractor. You can work as a SWE or any other IT position as either one.
ОтветитьAfter 10 years of working in both the fields who will be making more a decent software engineer or a decent consultant?
ОтветитьI jus accepted a technology consulting role where I would be doing a lot of software engineering work as well as more strategy, design, and high level solutions. Best of both worlds :)
ОтветитьThank you!!
Ответитьthis video helped a lot, thank you <3 , wish if I could've watched it earlier.
ОтветитьTraveling can be fun but it can be tiring for sure

ОтветитьIn consulting do you have a pressure of closing a deal with your client ?? Or achieving targets and procuring tenders in every meeting.?
ОтветитьNgl swe sounds better than consulting in every way.
ОтветитьWow love your video.❤️
Is it possible to join a consulting firm and after getting promotion to become a partner after completing undergrad in Computer science or do i need an MBA for it please answer??
Sir, what is the difference between Computer Science and Software Developer Engineer? Sorry for asking such stupid question but I really wanted to know.
ОтветитьI'm fresher and got job in PwC as tech consultant. Can I do job transition to software engineer after few years? Plz reply
ОтветитьIs it possible to switch from software engineering to consulting? For example, masters in computer science, then 5 years of software development, then an MBA and then move to management roles which don't involve any coding. Is it a realisable career path?
Ответитьwhat about consulting engineer?
