I am a fan of giving people options so while you can't respec in the tabletop version, people who have sunk 10+ hours into the game on a class and want to change it up without replaying those 10 hours is good to have available.

Respeccing is fine as it's there for who wants to do it

From what I understood, the Dark Urge seems to be a "overcome or give in to the evil within" type of story. I usually go more for a good/conflicted first character so definitely looking forward to a playthrough like that.

I watched the stream, but you caught things I didn't, so thanks for that. I need controller for games too, and it didn't sink in that's what they were using for their combat in stream.

In my campaigns in dnd i have had scenarios when players change classes narratively. I do think playing things out can lead to class changes, i support the choice and roleplay in respeccing.

Since i'm doing a custom character it almost feels silly not to choose the dark urge as it gives you a origin questline while still having your own character. Which makes things abit more interesting. And i imagine you can still play a good character anyway that is trying to resist the darkness inside and still do the right thing.

Damn I missed the part where they confirmed the ability to create your own custom party. Hope they let you build all four members from the get go :)

So the new rulebook removed racial attributes? So making Half-Orcs, Duergars really good meta wise races? Also the the respec for class might be bonkers but maybe it will be 10k gold.

"respecing is weird for an RPG" really? RPG's practically invented the concept in gaming.

It would be cool if when you play the dark urge to the most evil choices possible you end up being the reincarnation of Bhaal himself who could be a canon story for the whole series..., can t wait to play it on my second playthrough..., this game definitly got the hype....

My only unanswered questions are: Is sneak attack usable as a bonus action now? And can I change subclass and/or starting stats of origin companions when I recruit them?

Still listening, but a respec seems fine. Everyone plays the game differently and just like D&D, some tables allow players to swap classes if they truly arent happy with their choices. A respec seems significantly better than forcing those players to do a complete restart, which could turn them away.

The dark urge I believe is for people who want to "continue" the story from Baldurs gate 1 and 2, It doesnt mean your evil just you have something evil to deal with however you see fit

I never go evil. I just can't even in games. Lol

I wanted to play Dragonborn Monk, and I got to it in action. Looks like good solid build to go with.

loved the showcase, made me hyped for the game, and I think the idea of the dark urge origin is interesting in which you get to create your own character and give it the dark urge origin. I wonder if they will introduce more origin characters like that

Larian knows how to calibrate controllers as they have shown with Divinity 2 and it was way better as with the keyboard.

Still very excited for the game. I was actually hoping to see a bit more of BG and outside the city. Also was hoping for a kinda map view to kinda see where we might be going. But ready to play this.

That showcase made me wanna boot up the game. I’ve gotten into the routine of downloading the newest patch after the panel, so these next few weeks are going to be absolutely agony. My Drow sorcerer has to go save Minthara 🥹
