I was born when they stopped doing design contests. The thought of submitting my own Robot Masters for my favorite series has always been a dream of mine. I doubt it, but I hope they'll do this again, I already have a few designs in mind.

MegaMan 8 has some contest entries in its credits too, like Sharkman who we have seen years later with EXE Battle Network.

Chainman was my entry. Would be nice if there was someplace we can see all our rejected ideas. Or maybe a game that contains every rejected robot ever submitted?

I drew and submitted 6 robot masters. I had Mic Man: product of the times, had a boom box for a head. His mic missle would vibrate and destroy enemies. Bounce Man: would transform into rubber ball and bounce around the room. Bounce Ball weapon would rebound off walls. Can't remember the other ones. None of mine were featured.

Cactus Man is now my favorite non-official Robot Master.

I could never draw anything worth while, but I did have a lot of fun flipping through those illustrations when I was a kid. Lots of creativity out there!

Pot Man makes me want to see a Stove Man, Fridge Man, Veggi Man, Protein Man, Fruit Man, Grain Man, and Utensil Man with a cheesy simple plot of Wily's latest plan for world domination involving taking over the restaurant industry.

50000 designs! That's crazy! Now I understand why Capcom stuff did they don't accept fan submissions when I offered them a few (though, it seemed they were ready for business ideas). They don't need your ideas as they can get it whenever they want.

But it was interesting to learn that all robot masters except the first game are originally fan made. Thank you!

I entered that Nintendo Power contest. At least, I think. It's possible I saw the article and sent in a robot without realizing the contest was over. My Alienman design was pretty much just a ball with tentacle legs and an arm cannon that shot meteor-shaped projectiles, so it probably didn't seem all that inspired. I've subscribed to Capcom's newsletter in hopes they'll have another contest I can enter again. His new design looks more like a classic "Gray" alien and he has more interesting weapons now, for what it's worth. I'm just not sure it'd work out considering the holographic alien phase of the Wily fight in the second game.

There should be a fangame for megaman thats a Rougelike styled megaman game, 8 Robot Masters & 4 Castle Stages (4 Castle Stage bosses Remain the same each run)

The 8 bosses are the Runners up of each Rockman competion, so each runner up who drew their own robot masters would finally get their looks.

I believe "Nantai Man" would be "Flexible Man", because "nantai" would come from 軟体 (nantai), which would translate to "flexible body", which is the adjective used for molluscs (軟体動物, nantai doubutsu). That would explain its attack being "Yoga".

For the MM6 competition, I entered two, but they weren't featured in Nintendo Power. Gas Man had a gas mask and did AOE attacks. I also sent in Claw Man (looked really similar to Slash Man that came out for MM7). My design had small ears and hair was slicked back - not as spiky. I still like to think mine inspired theirs. Truth is, theirs was probably just a similar but better design.

I sent in a design back in the day. Machine Gun Man!!!! The idea of the character was to rapid fire all the other boss weapons. He kinda looked like Magnet Man but had hella guns.

Looks like a few of them are like renditions of the Super Sentai bosses, but what if, Capcom decided to give the rest of the drawings a final chance to be in the next MegaMan game? Who knows.

This video is sick, i always wondered exactly this, and here it is! It's so cool to see the guys that could have been. Born too late to participate in these contests but the fact that they happened is awesome.

Clown Man was also part of the Mega Man 6 concept but was totally different from how he appears in Mega Man 8 with a different design and different attacks

If you do part two, please give a bit more focus to the Mega Man 6 Robot Master submissions. They seem to be one of the few published ones that are only in Japanese, so it would be nice to finally understand who the remaining Rejected Masters are besides looking great

This is a coffee table book if I have ever seen one.

Man we got both a Tank Man and a Paste Man that looks like Glue Man in MMU. I wonder if MegaPhilX took any inspiration from these.

I'm actually the american winner. Windman looks similar to what I entered. My Windman was a skinnier robot but I'm just happy to win. We didn't get a copy of the game for winning but we did get a clock of our character with our name on it. A T-shirt a pin and some neon markers all of the mega man logo. Our names are also at the end credits as our character's designer. I eventually bought 2 copies of the game. One to play and one to keep.
