But let's just keep things in perspective at the moment, they still have Manchester City to play next month and Tottenham Hotspur before Christmas, and of course you are just as well aware of how congested the fixture list becomes in December and January - now if this were say March I would understand your alarm a bit more.

Still, Arne Slot has done immensely well but Manchester City it was noted at the very start of the season that they have an ageing defence and Kyle Walker is no longer what I would call City calibre, add to the equation the unfortunate injury to Rodri who is like what Van Dijk is to Liverpool and in the words of Frank Lampard - any club in the world is going to struggle with the loss of a player who is of that calibre.

Arsenal don't really have the same valid excuses that City do, they appear to have just fallen away with the likes of Nottingham Forest and Brighton and Hove Albion cashing in on the Gunners bad luck as well as the Reds from Merseyside.

I am also glad that Slot had enough savvy to turn down the Tottenham job the year before, as I am sure he is too.

Liverpool fans will not get carried away. We have been top at Christmas several times yet have failed at the last. We know this, so will keep our powder dry until we know for sure we’ve got it. A five point gap after 11 games is great, but there are 27 games to go. It changes in the blink of an eye.
