ОтветитьThis is better than the original… . I love it!
ОтветитьI always loved this song; this update is killer.
ОтветитьCool❤
ОтветитьAm I the only one who's noticed that he changed the last verse? Here's what Tracy sings at the very end:
You got a fast car / Is it fast enough so you can fly away?
You've got to make a decision / leave tonight or live and die this way.
That's different from the other times this verse comes around; everywhere else, it's "is it fast enough so WE can fly away" and "WE'VE got to make a decision." But by the end of the song, the relationship has broken down, the first-person narrator is paying all the bills, the partner is hanging out in a bar and not coming home very much, and the narrator has just said that (unlike their mom) "I ain't going nowhere." So the shift from "we can fly away" to "you can fly away" makes the point that the fast-car owner is being invited to either shape up or get out. Luke sings it with "we" at the end, just like all the other times.
I think this has to be a mistake; if he was going to change something deliberately, you'd think it would have been "checkout girl." But deliberate or not, I think it blunts the impact of the ending. That said, I love this version to pieces and I'm profoundly impressed with him for taking a big step outside his genre and making it resonate with country fans.
