BEST USB Microphones 2022 | For Singing, Home Studio - Shure MV7 Review

Hi... sorry for what might be a silly question but I'm new to this kind of thing. I'm recording my guitar and singing on my phone and the audio sounds terrible.. would using a USB mic help this situation.... Will the audio sound better on the video when I upload to socials ????

can I directly connect any of these usb mics to my MPC one+?

Shure mv7 mic was the best for me.

The presonus revelator surprised me honestly.

The mackie EM was incredible in sound for me. I would consider buying it for price point reasons. It came second for me.

The behringer is not outstanding but decent to me

I also agree with you that the mackie sounds better on your vocals, and your video just goes to show us all that we dont have to spend a lot of money just for a branded mic to sound good, nice video

Is it necessary to have an audio interface for podcast and can we add 3 mics to the laptop at the same time to record 3 people?

because usb microphone doesn't need audio interface and i can save more money.

I’ll be honest with you… you processed the signals of all the mics so the differences were minor… should have been left natural.. all at same usb gain… that way you can hear how the mics were intended to pic up… but you compressed and eq’d every signal… I used krk monitors and 5 different sets of headsets to spot the differences and it’s super hard to because of your processing

I want to do voice over. I want to record my poetry & Singing professionally. In which I get high quality. But in my poetry some lines will go in high tone and some lines will go in emotional low tone. Suggest me a good mic, headphone and audio interface.

Hello Sanjay, thank you for this review. I am considering Shure MV7 or MV7x with an audio interface for live (zoom, facebook live etc) and for recording Podcasts. If going the XLR route with MV7X, for this use, do you think M-Audio Solo would work? or just better to get a MV7?

Personally I thought 4 sounded the best. It was full, and I feel it had the least amount of background noise.

Shure MV7 unboxed, and I found 3 major issues and wish Shure can fix it by releasing a new firmware.

1&2. High Recording Latency, and Distorted mic-in:
* Push the Mix slider to 100% Playback
* Use DAW(Reaper/Nuendo) to process the mic-input
* Neither ASIO nor WASAPI can make the latency low enough for recording singing; I use a 99 Chinese-Yuan Type-C mic (Mi-Earphone), its latency is much lower than MV7.
* With input from MV7, I also tried to use the OUTPUT of MV7 and that type-c Mi-Earphone, both of them cannot get low latency.
** If I use the input from that Mi-Earphone, and output from MV7, the latency is very low.
This is why I determined the LATENCY is from MV7 RECORDING.
Perhaps its Limiter and Compressor is ALWAYS WORKING even though I switch them to OFF by the ShurePlus MOTIV.
** I didn't insert any processors into DAW to test this scenario.

3. Audio Output lacks Low Frequency
* When using it as a USB Audio Interface, the low frequency is cut too much. So that I can't use it as a mixing setup.

Because these issues, I can only use MV7 to record by its built-in processors (EQ + Limiter + Compressor), I will hear another set of processors from DAW after I record.
If I need to record repeatedly, it'll be impossible because the sound is totally different.

So I wish Shure releases a new firmware to fix them:
1. Allow flat curve on the playback.
2. Heavy Distortion on the recorded sound if the Mix is pushed to 100% Playback. This must be a bug!
3. Reduce the latency of the recording. Perhaps the Limiter/EQ/Compress should be removed in the DSP chain.

I got two sets of microphones for vocal recording one is blue yeti nano and one is Yamaha UR22C recording package. The XLR condenser microphone in the recording package has serious noise problem which is even worse than the blue yeti nano and I don't know why. The noise is near -40dbs with the gain level around 2o clock. I have tried so many ways to fix it, but it can't so I give up of using the XLR microphone. I am here to look a good quality usb microphone for my vocals.

On the go with a zoom H5..I can capture stereo and use MV7 via XLRto narrate in multi-track mode . (I have other XLR mics that I’d prefer to not carry around). Then on the same trip, if I want to Vlog/podcast without doing to much set up. I can just plug in the USB, fire up the phone A/V apps and grab some quick thoughts/scenes without needing to fly audio tracks in from an SD card, without having to power up the H5, without having to connect a lightning cable to a lightning adapter to a Focusrite etc, etc. This appears to be quick in one instance of my needs and versatile in other scenes.

My regular blue yetti didnt sound that good when i had it lol

I feel headache when I use my mv7 microphone, and I feel heavy energy (electricy or waves) comming out of it. had any of you felt this before?

Hello I noticed you mentioned to leave the reason why we’re looking at USB Mics. I’m a digital artist and I work off of an iPad Pro M1 chip but I also like recording music and realized I can record music off my iPad as well considering how expensive laptops can be and also how powerful iPads are nowadays I’m looking to use a USB mic to record with my iPad on cubasis. The type of music I’ll be recording will be rap lyrics and singing over a beat pretty much and I’m considering the shure mv7 but I’m extremely indecisive considering I’m on a budget but thinking of investing in myself by getting that Mic. Also I’m a delivery driver for a weed company so I’m on the road a lot and can record portably so that’s another reason as well. what do you recommend for someone in my position that’s willing to spend 200+ for the MV7is it worth it?

Pausing the video to answer your question. Main reason I am looking into usb is because I don't know enough about the xlr requirements. I once bought a displayport splitter to try and get additional displays - it cost several hundred dollars - it didnt work with my computer. Buying something you dont have much knowledge on - once bitten - twice shy

I came here while searching apogee hype mic just for it's size,ios compatibility inbuilt headphone out and analogue compressor..

For most people, especially those who don't need the highest bitrate or don't need to record multiple tracks at once, XLR is just too much. The cost and increased setup outweigh the benefits. I'm very glad you did this outstanding lineup for us all to help us choose what's right for our needs <3 Thank you very much
