We only get our fossil records of the megalodon on dry land. When the dry land were once oceans. Megalodons can travel in any oceans on earth. So the water temperature change or food source change may not be a major issue. Most of the extinction event happened on the land and sky, very little in the ocean.
Fossil record's have shown the Megalodon are known to just eat about any fish or sea mammal. A fish that is too bony never being an issue. Also have you seen how big a tuna can grow and they travel in schools. There would be a killer whale population explosion if there weren't any predator to keep them in check.
Reason why we don't usually see megalodon. Megalodons live in the ocean. Megalodons were ambush predators. We know this from fossil records, that showed us a megalodon tooth lodge on the broken backs of its victims. The megalodon's victims were attacked out of its victims visual range. Human beings are mostly on land and were just too small of a meal for it. Especially when there are bigger fish or sea mammals to eat.

Likewise, eat an x animal and let their species grow for x amount of time so that they don't go extinct. Vegans, you better et out of here, we're talking about Food chain. So we eat plants as well as animals equally. Not eating either of them will cause a huge imbalance in the nature. We just need to maintain the balance
