I love seeing you read books about Palestine and the ethnic cleansing perpetrated by Israel. a few years ago I read a 75-page book entitled « Zionist Colonialism in Palestine » by Fayez Sayegh and it was a really clear view of the genocide since the Nakba in 1948. it was written in 1965. very digestible and easy to understand for people who did not know a lot about Palestine before 2023!

I've just finished reading the country will bring us no peace by Matthieu Simard and wanted to recommend it to you, I read the translated version but he is from Quebec 😊

I really enjoyed Untethered Sky, but be aware it’s not really a revenge story. It’s more of a quieter story about the main character’s journey and how one specific incident informs the trajectory of her life. The ending will break your heart though

I usually don't like romance because of stupid miscommunication trope and lack of believability but Part of Your World is actually pretty good.

Untethered Sky was my fave read last year! It's amazing!!!!

I agree about fantasy vs contemporary romance. With fantasy I'm already suspending my disbelief so it's fine if there's a romance with the villain, but in contemporary it really irks me when the characters do silly things 😆

Can't wait to hear your take on Cackle. I know people who have loved it, but it didn't sit well with me and had a lot of cringy saccharine moments that I felt belied the more sinister issues going on that made it not land the way it thought it did? Also Ring Shout because it's been on my TBR forever!

Since you are considering reading Hugo awards books, I would recommend looking into their recent activities of marking queer books and anti China books as ineligible. Its totally up to you if you do anything with it, but I would recommend being aware if you are going to make a video that actively promotes them :)

Usually our tastes match, and I was underwhelmed by both Untethered Sky (3.5 --> 4) last year and Ring Shout (3.5 --> 3) just this week. I also didn't read the series you loved from these authors, so, I didn't have too high expectations before reading them.

I get the ick so quickly with contemporary romance and it makes it impossible to get behind the couple. I rarely read them.

In February I'm gonna try to read some romance in honor of Valentine's Day and some books by black authors in honor of Black History Month! I'm a slower reader so idk how many I'll get to but my first book will probably be The Vanishing Half.

I liked Untethered Sky, the world that’s hinted at makes me wish we’d gotten a full length novel though. It was very slice of life, i think.

From what I’ve seen of your videos, we have similar tastes in Contemporary Romance. I think you’ll probably like Part of Your World.

Oh, I have the Bluest Eye recently purchased, I might pick this up and read it along with you!

The audiobook for Ring Shout is SO GOOD

Untethered sky is not really a revenge story. It focuses more on the training of the main character and her bond with her roc.

Just wanted to flag that there are at least two books that are called the deep and the one by Alma Katsu is not good. I was super excited to read it, but it's REALLY bad. Currently reading it with a book club and most female characters get immediately aroused when they see/touch any men they meet for the first time. The consensual sex scene reads like rape. Writing is pretty bad as well. 😅
