I believe that there are still consequences of the cold war in the minds of both the russian and western people. I also think that NATO could have done more to be on better terms with Russia than perceiving it as an enemy or someone that the west need to keep away/protect others from. A better Russia-nato relations could have prevented what's happening now.

NATO was formed for mutual protection against aggression rather than a threat, this is why more have become members since the invasion of Ukraine. There are no winners in war, just destruction. Like America & Europe, Russia could have used the many billions spent on the war to improve the economy, industry & living standards etc. But we see the same blind loyalty to the corrupt Trump in America, they listen to populist hyperbolic platitudes about making America great again. As an old man in the U.S., having travelled the world, I am impressed with the situational awareness and expressiveness of the younger Russian people. The younger crowd here lacks these qualities.

It seems that a large portion of the younger population think that it is Russian propaganda that the west wants to destroy them, and that Russia started this aggression. As an american i can tell them that they are wrong. The west is not friendly, they provoked this conflict to dismantle Russia. The west is terrible, the grass is not greener on this side. The real propaganda is coming from western sources infiltrating your country.

As an Australian watching this all I can say is that it is apparent that the older interviewees are - the more brainwashed they are against the west. In truth all the Eastern European countries as well as Finland and Sweden have joined NATO voluntarily because of Russian aggression in Georgia and the Ukraine.
